When I replaced my rear calipers I had 2 bolts shear, so just replaced the entire caliper, surely you just need the mounting bracket section? Get a decent sized photo of the part and I MIGHT have a spare.

Have you tried a mobile mechanic? Always they always seem to have a way of sorting these kinda things out. Alot cheaper than a garage too

Gutted just as you were getting going!

Get a decent picture up of it mate, then we might be able to help more.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately the car is at my parents\' house at the moment (as they\'ve got a covered driveway) so I\'ll have to pop over later to get a picture.

However this might help for the time being: it\'s bolt number 6 on the diagram

Those bolts should be easy sorted fella as once both bolts are broken when you slide the disc off the carrier will come with it then nip glyph a decent welder and have him weld new nuts too the broken bolts then the heat from the welding will also allow the bolts too be removed with much more ease

Good idea dude, I\'ll have a look at it ASAP!

I had a look at mine yesterday. If its the top bolt then the threaded end is still in the calliper isn\'t it? If it is you can always take the calliper off and either drill out the thread or if you can get something on it to grip it wind it out (lots of wd40 first!)

Funnily enough my dad actually suggested the same thing yesterday! It sounds perfectly doable so I\'ll have a look next time I\'ve got access to the car :)

Trust me welding a nut too the broken part will shift it the heat generated from the weld act in the same way as oxyacetylene

TiddlesRX7

I know but not everyone has access to a welder. Plus thats only good if there is some of the bolt still showing to weld the nut too.6

Even if the bolt is snapped flush you can still build a very small amount of weld then pop the nut over it and then fully weld by all means try just grabbing at the snapped part with vise grips or the likes bug it may be worth heating it as much as possible first with butane gas or the likes as getting hold of oxyacetylene is not the easiest if you don\'t work in a garage

grinder

if you can get it off and to a bench its soo much easier

i would then either weld a nut to it ( as ade says - you need access to a welder ! )

or drill it out - but if you are doing that , i recommend using a pillar drill

Very true Stu a pillar drill is the way to go but most people don\'t have one in their garage :( If you can get some mole grips on it maybe just warm it on the gas hob to try and free it off a little and try and wind it out. Just don\'t over heat it.

Worst case if you need the car is to buy a whole calliper off one of the cars being broken at the moment along with a set of bolts. That\'d get you back on the road.

Well I had another look at the car last night and I\'ve got a few ideas as to how to get this sheared bolt out, taking on board the above suggestions of course ;)

Ideally need the car sorting over the course of the next month so it\'s ready for the first Buxton on March 10th. List of most important things that need doing:

Get the DTSS eliminators in (obviously)
New discs and pads all round (don\'t need to be anything special as I\'m not planning any power hikes just yet)
Get my water and oil temp gauges wired up (can anyone point me in the direction of the right senders etc that I\'d need?)
And an exhaust of some description would be cool, just so I can hear the thing out on track!

grinder

The discs and pads can be fun , took me about 4 days to do mine

Although if you have removed the back discs to do the DTSS then that certainly helps in the future

My back discs were well and truuely siezed on , where as the front just fell off

if you can be certain that the dics will come off and nothing snaps then i reckon you can do all 4 discs and pads in about 4 hrs TOPS

its when things go wrong that you suffer

have you got the calipers off yet so you can see what you need to do ?

i cant think if they are threaded , as this will be a pain as you need to drill out the broken bit and then then retap , if they are just holes , then use a pilar drill and drill em out .. nice and slowly

if you were a lot closer you could have bobbed then down and i would have gotten my dad to drill them out for you ( he likes things like that ! )
