removed all pipes and wiring and gear box bolts and have taken engine mounts off. but the engine will not come away from the gear box, any ideas y. do i need to release the clutch bearing in gear box some where ? thanks

Have you double checked you have removed all the bolts, I know when I was helping Prof with his engine change, we missed one tiny bolt which was holding it all together lol

The engine will move slightly away from the gearbox, but you need to remove the small inspection plate on the bottom of the gearbox, then push back the release bearing.  Have a search as the topic has been covered many times.  Also a video on YouTube explains it.

Probably a dum question, have you removed the starter motor? Secondly, you have to Jack the gearbox from the bottom so that the engine mounts are also out from sub frame. I hope that would help.

Just a guess, there are locating \'pins\' on the rear iron of the engine to help it locate to the gearbox.  If its coming out at an angle then maybe these car catching?  Just a wild stab but I recon release bearing on clutch also :)

You need to undo the 6 pressure plate bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel via the inspection hole with a 14 mm spanner .

Use a big screwdriver jammed in the flywheels teeth to stop the engine turning while you undo each bolt, then turn the engine by flicking it around with the screw driver and then jam the flywheel again to undo the next bolt.

With all six bolts out then prise the pressure plate off the dowels that are still holding the presssure plate to the flywheel and the box will come out.

Unlike conventional clutches you remove the clutch assembly with the gear box on an FD

hope this helps
