Gaz.

Hi folks,

I\'m Gareth, soon to be 23 and have owned a Nissan 200SX S14a for almost 2 years now. I recently decided to undertake a full underseal job of the car, but have found so much rot I\'m seriously considering breaking it for spares.

One of the cars on my shortlist is an FD RX7, and I\'m hoping I can pick up one I won\'t have to modify much for around the £7-8000 I reckon I could get from breaking the Nissan and selling my bits sat in the garage.

I\'m looking out for an OEM styled car with coilovers, brakes etc, basically a decent spec as it stops me forking out more on mods and dipping into my mortgage fund. For instance, the spec of the Nissan is here...

So I\'m looking to get as close to that kind of spec for my money as possible. Is it realistic, or am I just dreaming?

Thanks for looking, and Hello :).

£8,000 should get you a very good single turbo fdrx7. Just don\'t buy the first one you see, look at a few. The standard brakes are prety good, a lot of the guys that race them keep the standard brakes. Only thing worth doing would get them reconditioned, new seals etc.

Learn as much as you can about rx7s before you buy one so you know if you your lookig at a lemon. HTH

I\'ll rebuild them myself, done it on the past 2 cars I\'ve had. I\'m a Mechanical Engineer by trade, didn\'t mention that.

Yes I\'ve got a few current owners through other forums and acquaintances giving me advice, but obviously the more the merrier.

Welcome Gaz, glad you joined a forum. The guys on here should help you with any queries you may have.

Good luck with your search and I would be happy to look at any potential cars with you if it would help.

Nobody who wasn\'t into cars knew what the Nissan was either, nothing new there.

Mine was imported in 2004 and flew through it\'s recent MOT with no rust issues or any advisories what so ever:).
I\'m amazed your\'s had such an issue, thought Jap cars were better rust proofed.

I\'m only selling because of job loss, as in the add, I\'ve thrown at least £13.5k at this, and only needs a set of coilovers (£600-700 new) if you want to lower it (nothing wrong with the stock suspension so doesn\'t have to be changed) and a bit of tlc on the paint being original red and it\'s sorted.
Will cost a lot less than £8k for a fast, well specked and well sorted car

Already seen yours for sale. Can\'t imagine I\'ll be able to insure it though.

The Nissan is a 97, non galvi chassis and when they got them in the UK they did a :censored::censored::censored::censored: poor job of undersealing them. 15 years later, they fall apart!
