hi guys ive got to buy a new clutch for my fc here is my prob

my current setup is stock clutch fly gearbox and rear diff housing with fd diff in (soposidly never took it out to check but i did get another diff with the car i asume the old fc diff)

anyways im going to upgrade to

aftermarket fionza (however you spell it) exeddy stage3 clutch
and aftermarket 1.5 or 2 way diff (any suggestions to which would be helpful)

now the diff im looking at is from a fd with the housing so here lye my question

before i buy anything is it worth going to a fd gearbox and aftermarket clutch as i could do with a new clutch slave (has new one on but was wrong one so i cut and welded the brakets in the right place as old one leaked like mad works fine just not correct one) and fd rear diff housing???

not really bothered about cost diffrence just wondered if it was worth it?? my current gearbox has dont 75k and feels perfect nice and tight but not stiff but not wabbely and crunch just right.

thanks as always guys.

Don\'t forget the auto flywheel weight you will need if you have a light weight flywheel! I don\'t think the FD box bolts up the same.

What are you going to use the car for? If for track days etc and handling, look at getting an FD OEM torsion diff and fit the internals into the FC diff case.

its mostly for track days and fun fast road killing. and i wouldnt mind the odd drifting in it.

suspention wise i have fully ajustable tien coilovers, and mean fully both hight and spring loads and 16 way damping, also have custom solid bushes on the back with the bit that replaces the factory rear steering and full bush kit up front. just want to get the car so i can really use it for anything depending what my mood as its purly a fun/weekend/trackday/going to shows car.

yer i know about the balancer its anoying as it bumps the cost of the flywheel up be £90 but it does only weight 8.5kg with the ballancer weight.

yer i think it already has a fd diff in from what the old owner said but ive never looked at ether the diff that was in a box covered in oil or diff on the car. but it does lock both wheels up when you drive farward i beleive and it does keep the car very strait even when in wet and still spinning in 3rd.

just there is a mate who has a 2 way in a fd housing but i know there very niocy sometimes.

Don\'t use an FD diff for drifting, they usually break, FC diffs are stronger but not as good for tracks

the diff is dependant on what you want of it tbh. I wouldn\'t get too bothered about weather its a 1.5 way or a 2 way. The only really benefit i can see is that a 2 way may be slightly better for shift locking when drifting, but if you\'ve got a reasonable about of power you shouldn\'t need to use that technique. The important thing for a diff is how much you want it to lock up and how easily you want it to lock up. Generally you\'ll find with some diffs that you need to run a fair bit of preload mean that it will always be locked at least a bit which will result in it being noisy/skipping. Though for road use it would be preferable imo because you don\'t want the thing to suddenly lock up mid corner. Then you\'ve got a diff where you don\'t run preload and whenever you put the clutch in it becomes and open diff. Nice for daily driving but can be a nightmare for fast road driving as it can lock up un expectantly which is not what you want. TBH for fast road driving, track and maybe a bit of drifting the fd torsen will be fine. The weakness is only really a problem when it comes to drag racing due to the huge shock forces you put through the diff. If you want to do some fairly serious drifting (more than the odd roundabout) Id suggest going for a propper diff. Personally I\'d just run a welded diff as they\'re cheap and predictable, if the rear of your car is all solid it shouldn\'t be too noticeable.

As far as the the gear box stuff goes, unless you\'re killing fc boxes why bother with the hassle of an fd box? Just sounds like un-needed effort

\'91 FC TII - Drifter... Under construction :D

Cool yer it was more a case whether a fd box was stronger. There is nothing wrong with my fc box. Ill prob just weld up my diff and get a 1.5 way yer i want it to be predictable no sudden out for no reason. Its fine as it is just if im building it all to a high spec i would rather do the right thing with the diff thanks again guys
