Hi all,

Bit random I know, but my project thread is gradually evolving:

I have just got a kart chassis which hydro brakes all round, wonder if a kart could turn into a drift kart? Should be quite a bit of adjustment in all the settings and the engine is going to be pretty powerful, what do you guys think? Im planning to have the kart as a drag kart, but I guess setting could be changed to make it drift?

P.S. the wheels have epic dish

The two things I can see being a problem is the amount of steering lock and the driveline.  You ought to be able to get more than enough wheel control to hold slides and it ought not to be too hard to rig up rear brakes for initiations.  But karts have limited lock for their size so big angles might be difficult, also if you\'re using a centrifugal clutch then I don\'t think you\'re going to be able to get the power to the back wheels quickly enough to keep them spinning hard and maintain the slide.  I may be wrong on that though!

It will be a bike engine, so its geared, will see about lock, will post up what the lock is like at the moment, there are many many settings for the steering on both the rack and the hubs. Its just an idea though :)

Just have an over powered engine in it, it will slide all over the shop easy. Steering on carts isn\'t much as theyre really responsive.

Yeah, I was looking at Gixxerkarts, but would mean that I would need to make the frame longer:

Seems you can fit a Honda CB600F in the OEM location though:

Probably slightly more stable than this:

re japi

I agree with Will66.

But i think Hayabusa engine is too big. I have seen those done with 600cc engine. And it is big enough. Itl go like grazy. :)

Nice project though ;)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Yeah, trying to keep the engine size down, I am looking at a CR250 dirt bike engine at the moment, those are around 50bhp and easy to mod and repair, although I have just found a cat B Honda CBR600 for about £350, I will need to check the cost of rebuilds etc plus how wide it is as I don\'t want to extend the frame at the moment.

Just drop it in and drift it!!!!

I would go with the 2stroke engine. You can up th HP quite easily with barrel kits, bigger carbs and exhaust.

I tuned my 50cc scooter up before I passed my driving licence so much that it would do 70mph on the flat and 80 down hill!! Had a gear kit in it to stop it pulling wheelie every time I set off and to raise the too speed. So imagine how fast a cart will be with a 250cc 2 stroke, which basically can equate to a 500cc 4stroke.

13.3 1/4 mile at 100 mph.  Not bad but with you backside that close to the ground I bet it feels a lot faster.

I used to have a mini and that felt like I was sat on the floor. 30mph felt like 60 and when I did 85mph it felt like warp speed so go knows what a cart will feel like
