what does it mean when the car always cuts out when you try and start it in the morning.. first start up always cuts out unless i sit and give it a little rev, apart from this it runs mint , i can start it and reverse straight out the drive and it wont cut out... only if i start it and dont touch the throttle... again only in the morning

I would hazard a guess that the fuel/spark arent having enough time to warm up and compress properly. either that or the automatic choke isn\'t kicking in properly, its always a good idea to blip the throttle to get it going anyway, just to get some of the staler fuel out of the chambers.

Mine does it sometimes, as I always start it in 1st with the clutch down to prevent the cold start thing kicking in. Just stop it from stalling the one with light revs and don\'t worry, i talked about this a while ago and we concluded the problem was with the cold start system. Remove it if you want, it\'s crap anyway!

cheers guys !!!! thats a worry off my mind, thanks

There is a cold start device just behind the ic that has a volatile wax capsule with cooling fluid passing through  it ,it may need the screw adjusting on top but it may also be blocked inside

would removing this cure it, or keep the same symptoms?.... alternatively is it easy to clean?

Just take it off strip it down test the wax capsule pop it in a pan with some kettle cleaner, good look
I need to sort mine but I have lost the screw off mine

If the plugs are old, changing these can also help with starting.

If it starts right up and then cuts out, it does suggest something around the throttle body - bad compression makes it hard to even fire.

Should probably also check for vac leaks, as these are notorious for causing all sorts of niggly startup and idle isues.

Is it always from a cold start ?

yea, just from a cold start, first thing in the morning, and yea it fires no problem at all, always within 1-2 secs max of turning the key so dont think its anything to do with compression, just starts and dies unless i blip the throttle... nothing major, its not even really bothering me i was just wondering if theres an easy fix ;)
