It sounded mental ticking over at the lights . I was in my car with the windows done up and the radio on halfway and thought WTF is that noise !!!!! I turned around and spotted the RX7 , jumped out the car and watched you fly off down the road . It made my day anyway . :yes

re japi

lmao That thing is going to be sick. It´s just... wrong... ;)
Nice project. Waiting more updates. :)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Hi folks , sorry for the lack of updates but the bodyshell has not been finished yet so i can\'t get on with much else . My mates doing the resto in between jobs when he gets time so things move slowly as he\'s always busy .
Works also been slow for me this year so not had much spare cash too buy anything else either but things are looking up now .
I\'ve got a Renault UN1 transaxle to use instead of a Porsche 911 one now as it\'s alot cheaper this way and seeing as the car will be very light i think the Porsche one would be over kill anyway .
I\'m going to need someone to get the gearbox/flywheel/clutch made up and working with the rotary engine so does anyone know a decent firm/engineering place that they can recommend ? Cheers .

Ok the ball\'s rolling again and the boys have finished welding up the rust in the rear end and are now uprating the front suspension mounting points ready for the switch from a transverse leaf spring to coilovers etc .
We\'re trial fitting the gearbox this week as well so hopefully it will fit between the chassis rails with some minor floor/bulkhead chopping or else i\'ll need a re-think or have to use a rear spaceframe set up or something .
I don\'t want a space frame of any sort as this will turn it from a proper looking car into a kit car thingy so will try to avoid this if possible .
Also i\'m running the full 500+bhp now and not a low lag smaller turbo as i know i\'ll get bored and have to change it later anyway , lol .
Should be around 900bhp per ton and run 150mph terminals at the drag strip according to the computer calc programme i used . Supercars move over !!!! :Thumbsup!

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Crazy crazy oh hang on, that\'s me too. We should start our own club. Old light cars with too much power, or something like that.

600gaz

Ha Ha , sounds like a great club !!! Rear engine cars always launch harder than anything else so if you\'ve ever seen a full monty Beetle in action then you\'ll know what i mean . Mine is alot lighter and more powerfull than a turbo VW aircooled engine conversion i would have thought so it could run some mental times if all goes well .
My mate has a mid-engine 450bhp subaru powered mk1 Fiesta and that easy ran 10.2secs at 140mph on street rubber at Santa Pod and mine looks like a small kids toy parked next to it !!!! lol

Bonkers!! :O
Looking forward to seeing this + some strip action next year :)

600gaz

I think it\'s a long way off yet , 2-3 years at least . If i can get the engine and gearbox joined together and both fitted to the car with the roll cage and suspension next year i\'ll be happy .
:)

OMG, you\'ll double the length with the wheely bar :D

Will this be ready for rotorstock next year (please say yes !)

lol , wheelie bars about 6 foot long is the norm on the short stumpy motors i\'ve seen before . Alot of the VW beetles run without them and pull huge wheelies for 2 gears so i might give that a go first or put 4x bags of cement in the front . :D

600gaz

Had a very quick measure up ready for the gearbox fitting and the casing is hitting the rear suspension mounts so these will need chopping off and maybe the rear chassis rails moving it seems :2Rolleyes . This means i\'ll have to re-design the rear suspension or get a sequential gearbox which will be smaller .
That\'s the problem when using a small car and replacing the small bits with big bits . Could be easier too cut the whole rear floor section out and spaceframe it but i will resist for now and try to think of something clever . Pics later . :yes

Grant Monkhouse

Can you move the engine back a bit to clear the suspension?

600gaz

I need the driveshaft outlets (on the side of the gearbox) roughly centre of the rear wheel arches in an ideal world and i\'m not sure of the max angle a driveshaft can be at if i move the gearbox backwards  .
I\'ve got tons of room lengthways for the engine so it could all move backwards if the driveshaft angle isn\'t critical . Need to find out before the airsaw comes out , lol . :chat

Grant Monkhouse

I would imagine some of the beetle guys would know about how far things can move back before going too far.

Always go for the easiest solution before the good old chop chop ;) :D
