Hello people I have just purchased my first rx7 fd. It is running knightsport twins apex filters and a fc commander and racing beat cat back system.been told it was running around 320 330 bhp mark.
It does need a engine rebuild which i knew about which I will do myself.
I just have a few questions for you guys, here goes.
The car has a racing beat cat back system on it but was thinking of making a new system for it but larger bore. would this help gain power?
Can i get an English manual for the apex fc commander?
And also is there any books i can buy to help with tuning and general stuff on the fd/rotarys

This might help with ref to one of your Q\'s :

also, the racing beat backbox is known to help keep the noise down, check and see what bore size it is / has...... pretty sure actually it\'s still good and OK for power too.
Most peeps have / recommend 3" from the tubs back, you can get uprated / larger downpipes ..... then silenced midpipe and choice of rear exit :)
All the best with it dude, the KS tub setup is pretty FDUKin awesome so I hear, capable of nearer 400 with the right injectors / fuelling :)
Have fun

Phil has given you some really good advice already and as he has said the RB system is really good and will already be a 3" bore system plus you also have a good set of turbos plus something to tune it with the Apexi,

If you have not driven the car you may be suprised at what you already have under the bonnet when it\'s up and running again.

As for books, there\'s nothing really new to direct you too but there\'s loads out there on the internet.

One word of warning for when you strip the engine, if you find a broken or chipped Apex seal then its likely the engine has detonated so before running it hard with the new build, best make sure its re-mapped.

Hope this helps and you enjoy ther car when its sorted (which i\'m sure you will)
All the best Clive

Clive you seem to be in the know iv just bought an FD for a lil project and it has lost compression in the rear rotor, now say the apex seal has decided to go A.W.O.L whats the chances of damage to rotor Housing?

cheers Stu

yea im picking it up this saturday ill have the engine out next weekend and go from there. once stripped down though i take it i have to replace every seal in the engine, whats the cheapest way of doing it so i can get it running while i save a bit to strip it back down and port it a bit

davehg

my advice is dont cut corners, do it all at once and spend the money on the right parts... it will only bite you and cost more in the long run...
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

SAS_Racer

yea thats what i was going to do dave but i might need another cheap engine to move it about for a while how cheap could i pick one up or how much for a rebuilt one?

Id spend a bit of time on fuelling, its often ignored but is the quickest way to kill your rotary, even just a fuel filter change and pressure regulator as it will be a good start for little money, but if youve got the engine out its a good time to look into it,i take it your sticking with twins? may be even worth 850 primaries if its apart and your running kb turbos, will be good bang for buck.

They are standard secondary injectors in an fd. If your putting them in your primary rail you will need to get it machined for them to fit. If you do a search there is plenty of info on how to do it:Thumbs-up
Might be worth deciding what sort of power you want before spending any money and just get a new secondary rail with 1680 injectors which should be more than enough for most applications

SAS_Racer

ok lee this may seem a silly question but why are the secondary ports and injectors called the secondary ones when the are the bigger more primary source of fuel and air?

Because even though they are the larger supplier of of fuel they dont turn on untill after the primaries when the ecu needs them to.
850 secondaries are everywhere ive got a set but youll have to get your rail machined search on here for it i think its around 3.1 mm,
1680s are a great option but with rail, clips, hose and resistors gonna be at least 400 on your build unless they are second hand.

obvioulsy if your willing to the 1680s are perfect but you will need to do some work with your air pump/rats nest to fit it all in as you are still on twins this is much easier on a single, hence why 850s are good value:Thumbs-up
