Ive wanted to ask this for a while now but have never had chance to get on for a while.

For those who have performed an engine rebuild before.....How scary was it for the first time removing your engine?

Im just attempting mine now and everytime i go back to it to continue my nerves get worse and worse.

Removing the engine is easy, just remember and label where everything goes and you should be good.

Don\'t forget the bolts through the inspection hatch on the gear box which need removing to detach the engine from the gear box.

Brett

Which car are you removing it from? Usually it\'s getting the ancillaries etc out of the way that\'s the biggest pain.

its a 1992 efini automatic.

Removing 12a wasnt bad. We did label everything...

But first start after rebuild, damn we were nervous!!! :) Then she started nicely, run smooth and we heared that "brab brab" sound... We went wohoo, opened bears and just listen that sound... :)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Take photos !

They really do help when putting things back - the service manuals are ok, but sometimes there are subtle differences with model types, US / UK / JAP differences - so keep a photo record as well as labelling anything non obvious.

You\'ll want to pay particular attention to labelling the injector runs and where the wiring harness goes across the top of the engine. Plus if you\'re putting the vacuum rack back on the engine - photo all that lot and label it too !

Other than that engine swap in / out is a relative breeze. Rebuild is a lot more involved - but be methodical and it will go fine. :yes

At least a Rotary should have a lot less to label than say... an SR20DET...

EDIT: I was going to say a 2JZ but that debate is raging elsewhere on the forum ;p

Only label you need to put on a 4 banger when removing it is "take to scrap yard" then install a rotary!!

As said the hardest part is removing all the bits, but when you are down to the block it\'s a breeze, my mistake was letting someone just pull off the vac pipes, had no idea where they went but the vac diagram helped me put it all back right first time (lucky) label the fuel pipes as well. and mark the run of the engine loom as said.
Bag all nuts and bolts with the items that you take off.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself...
But i can always do with some help now due to, my advancing years!
