Quote from: davyv;794129I think after all this quite a few wont be renewing memberships next time.
After being an FD owner for eight years i have seen a big change in this site and not for the better.
Give some people a little bit of power and it goes straight to their heads.

Davy, first of all many thanks that you became a member of MRC in the first place, but also sad that you feel you wish to be no part of it however it is a shame that you have obviously not chosen to be a regular poster here with just 300 odd posts in 8 years.

Just as the report button is accessible to members who have complaints  the members section with a suggestions thread is open all the time as well plus an e-mail to team@mazdarotaryclub.com if a member is not happy.

So at any time over the years as a member you always have always had various way to voice your concerns about "your" club.

As a long term member I would fully welcome your views on how you feel the club has changed, obviously in your opinion for the worse over the years because without such information nothing can ever change anyway anywhere.

A big for instance at the moment is that If we were not prepared to listen I would not have put the proposal forward to you all to see if essentially you can come up with an alternative to the moderators section.

People on here will hopefully now start to realise that much of the things that go on behind the scenes is actually member driven by the amount of reported posts we receive indeed each day for weeks we have had reported posts that the moderation team then have to spend time working out if action is to be taken or not.

This morning it was actually nice to log on after not being on here since yesterday afternoon and NOT finding that somebody had reported a post about something or other.

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

I know times are hard!, but
All depends what you want out of the forum, which works out at 0.06 pence a day, i used to find a lot of parts on the forum, and now i seem to be using it a lot lately to sell a lot of the stuff, which is free to do-even to a guest.

my main reason for rejoining this yr was the organised track days and discount that comes with it, just one events discount pays the forum fees not that i\'ve used it lol-next yr!

Casey organises some great track days. :Thumbs-up

Plus events like Brooklands and the Christmas party - you get your membership back by just going to one or two of those. And it\'s a great night out. :cheers

I was going to say something similar - Free Brooklands entrance at the spring show, £5 off each event like Japfest / Japshow - that would get a lot of your money back over the year if that wash the only motive for joining.

I hear that often, but then hear what things people do spend their cash on - I think I\'m \'waisting\' my money in a good way :D

If I lived in the uk I would wothout a doubt be a paying member, bit it\'s kinda hard for me to make it to track days! Even harder to make it there with my car :Giggle

Soon as I am back in UK will without a doubt be \'upgrading\' :)

Have been a \'surfer\' on this site for many a year (dont need to register to get info, internet links are great),decided to register to see if I get more and to pay for membership, however, reading what transpires on this forum\\club is astonishing.......this thread is just an example and there are more in the arcive\'s(sp).

Quote from: jetpilot;794181Sometimes, just sometimes, members and guests should be given some credit as to our ability to speak freely as we have here without the need for as mentioned above, over moderation!

Well stated.

Some people do not have the need to be a \'post whore\' on a forum as all the information is freely available from the search button. The persons quiet demeanor(sp) doeas not imply he is not participating.Only a fool will chastise a man of lesser words.

So at any time over the years as a member you always have always had various way to voice your concerns about "your" club.

The term "your" club again is seen as a \'talking down\' ,would have been better embraced as ...your club...,non confrontational,it seems that you as the President wants to dominate.

As a long term member I would fully welcome your views on how you feel the club has changed, obviously in your opinion for the worse over the years because without such information nothing can ever change anyway anywhere.

A sign of a true leader would not rely on a \'faceless\' internet writings but would rather call a gathering of all members to voice opinions in public.

A big for instance at the moment is that If we were not prepared to listen I would not have put the proposal forward to you all to see if essentially you can come up with an alternative to the moderators section.

Any respectable club\\forum with transparent rules\\freedom of speech\\good values\\club ethos at heart would not need regulation if there was no alternate motives to be part of said club\\forum.

People on here will hopefully now start to realise that much of the things that go on behind the scenes is actually member driven by the amount of reported posts we receive indeed each day for weeks we have had reported posts that the moderation team then have to spend time working out if action is to be taken or not.

Report post button should be removed, any objections should be forwarded via email, this serves as \'cool down period\' for the person objecting as it takes more \'internet\' effort to write an email rather than just clicking on a button.

When you pay for a service you are entitled\\have a right to have a say in it.If you dont it is a \'dictatorship\' regime.i.e .........in ******* you pay taxes, but your vote does not count, you are still curbed and told what to do.....

Quote from: senodlo;794444When you pay for a service you are entitled\\have a right to have a say in it.If you dont it is a \'dictatorship\' regime...

I think that is way too strong.

It is a club - by analogy (probably a risky thing to do...), if you enter a nightclub and pay your fee you are expected to abide by the rules of the club. You wouldn\'t have a say in the rules of the club, you just agree to abide by the rules that are set by the club when you pay. In doing so you enter into a contract. The nightclub owners want to ensure the majority of the paying members have a good time; if someone misbehaves and doesn\'t heed a warning they\'ll be thrown out.

The difference is that the MRC does have an area for suggestions and, contrary to what you might think, we do listen to see how the forum can be improved. I started as a guest, liked what I saw, paid my fees for a few years, then got invited to take a more active role. At the end of the day I\'m simply someone with a passion for rotary cars who chooses to spend some of my free time (unpaid) to keep the forum a nice place for the members to frequent. It\'s a pretty thankless task at times I can tell you........

hahahah!!! But seriously, what are people\'s problems? I\'ve had no issues, the only run in with a mod I\'ve had (recently, incidentally) has been well mannered, polite and extremely helpful (thank you Casey).

If you don\'t want to pay for a service, don\'t expect it to work for you, if you go out of your way to then poo-poo that service, then what do you expect?

It works much the same way as the voting system (as has been brought up recently), if you choose not to vote, you choose not to moan about the party that gets in. therefore, if you choose not to pay for membership, don\'t be annoyed when things don\'t go your way.

In my experience, the admin and mods here go very far out of their way, above and beyond what they, by rights should need to. They shouldn\'t have to change/punish the majority just to please a minority, that way of acting and thinking is what we have to thank for the stigma of driving and owning a modified car these days.
