Exhaust cutout pipes?

Hi everyone, I am thinking of fitting one of those exhaust cutout pipes (where you can choose to run it through the OEM exhaust or just straight to atmosphere (for when I am at Santapod)

I seems that I can only find 2.5" ones though, can anyone point me towards the 3" pipes or would it be easiest to just get a Y pipe made up and an exhaust butterfly valve welded to it?

The reasoning I am wanting this sort of exhaust cutout it due to the fact that the car is a street car most of the time, but I want to have the option to run derestricted when doing drag runs etc. I would have to of course aim the cutout downwards to not set anything alight!

I am thinking of fitting it post downpipe, pre midbox, I have seen some that just have a bolt on blanking plate that can be removed to have an open exhaust and then the blanking plate needs to be bolted back on to return it back to OEM silencing.

The exhaust cutout I mean is like this:

I have found that they do an electric one at 3" and a Y pipe, but not a 3" manual.

would that not need a different map for each exhaust?

Possibly, but it should deffo be mapped in the \'straight pipe\' configuration, the normal exhaust setup for road will then just be like running it restricted (like a bung).

What I might do instead is to have the whole midbox removable with V band clamp and drop the whole midbox and replace with a sideexit exhaust and keep the rear twin exit system, this would mean that I would need to map the car on the dyno or indeed on the drag strip as my e-manage ultimate is plugged into the wideband O2 sensor so can map for that.

Here are the options:

1. Exhaust cutout with removable bung (undoes when I get to a track manually)
2. Exhaust cutout with electric butterfly valve
3. Exhaust diverter to go down either the left or right back box (one would be heavily silenced the other would be basically open)
4. V banded midbox that can be easily removed and replace with a track only exhaust

it would be heaps easier and cooler just to press a button! didnt the mitsubishi 3000gt have something like this as standard?

I think the Corvettes have this as OEM, I might try and get hold of a manual exhaust butterfly and bolt one of those on, the issue I have is the fact that there is a dead ended Y piece in the exhaust stream, not sure how that will affect performance when its closed etc

wolfie1

totally modify your system so the straightest possible flow is the track system any the dead ended y end is for road use

I would honestly say worry about this stuff after you have put your engine and turbo in your car.

However if you want a noisy exhaust at pod then just vband your mid pipe and just take it out at pod and stick a 90* bend on it pointing at theguy in the other lane.

I am just researching what I should do as the exhaust is going to be worked on when the turbo goes in, so its best to plan for what you want to do otherwise it will need modding again to fit other stuff lol
