Just a quick one, are they the same or different and if so how much?

Are the t2 rads thicker?

cheers.

Skifledanabit

not sure but I think the pipe locations may be different, may be wrong though

No offense bud - but how can you answer a question and not give any worthwhile information within the answer?

I put the rad from my scrap n/a into my t2 cab with no probs.

I was saying what may or may not have been a problem, I thought I read somewhere they may be different, don\'t get your knickers in a twist

I suspect they are the same - the oil coolers are - and the mounts and pipe exits are certainly in the same place.

That\'s my whole point - I asked \'are they different\', you said \'I\'m not sure\', well i can tell you that I\'m not sure either, hence asking the question!

If everybody answered my post telling me they weren\'t sure if wouldn\'t make very informative reading :Laugh

I\'m going to go on the brain surgery forums.

Q \'whats the best way of removing a cerebral cortex
A \'hmm, well I I have no idea since I\'ve never done one, but I saw something similar on tv, might have been the same, I\'m not sure - but it could have been, if it was it looked easy, if it wasn\'t, then it might be hard.

Hope that helps! ;)

The rads are different from T2 to the NA.  There outlets ae in different locations and there is no centre cap on the T2 rad.

yeah i was thinking that brett

but im not sure if that was the EGI / TII difference or the S4/S5 difference

EGI S4 - Filler cap on the actual rad
TII S5 - filler cap on a little pedastal on the top right hand corner ( looking from front of car )

Na and turbo rads are the same.the water cap is at the left of the rad on the turbo and in the center of the rad on the na.everything else is the same .

I love the way you put a turbo next to the rad to \'label\' it - very cool :Thumbs-up

Ricco_04

Take it thats an S4 N/A rad in the pic next to the TII one?

So the S5 N/A rad is identical to the TII one then (as above the pressure cap was relocated)

Forgot to say cheers for this info - clear, concise and straight to the point.

I was asking in case there was a cooling efficiency benefit for my FB 13bt, but in this case, it appears I\'m good with the NA. :cool

bumpstart

i will spell it out as us aussies saw the evolutions in the rads
,, bear in mind we see lots of jap cars and engines also, and so probably have a better grasp on many of the variations

the pictures posted in posts above mine show a late s4 radiator
,, that is the one with cap on the top tank
and a S5 radiator,, that is the one with the cap on a plastic stalk

they are same NA and turbo ( for s5 )
the s5 cap is for pressure control and for filling

FOR s4--
NA and turbo rads are the same
,, there is subtle differences between month of build
and some model specifics in the layout of the filler point and overflow cap locations

s4 NA and turbo early ( 86 ish ) rads have no radiator filler cap at all

NONE

the fill cap is on the top of the alum thermostat neck
,, the top hose outlet at the rad has bleed screw in the side that needs to be used when filling the system
the level sensor on the rad top tank middle is soldered to an overflow pipe
,, which feeds a remote pressure cap and overflow setup that is in front of the rad support panel
this overflows to a bottle inside the engine bay near leading coils ( NA )
or to a bottle mounted in front of the radiator from the support panel ( turbo )

later ( 87 ish ) turbo and NA the pipe is deleted
,, and the cap on the thermoneck becomes the smart ( pressure relieving )  one
and the plastic cap fitting is cast with an overflow pipe for the bottle
by now all bottles are mounted in front of the radiator,, NA and turbo

LATER s4 ( 88 ish ) turbo and NA have a rad that has a cap location in the middle of the top tank
( as pictured in posts above mine )
the thermoneck fitting again becomes a dumb filler point
( blinded and is now essentially redundant)
and the cap in the middle of the rad has the overflow pipe

NB the auto version of all rads have the cooler pipes in the bottom tank
