Quote from: B.Martin;789414Surely imobilizers are a bit more tricky? My FC has one and even i can\'t get it to turn off sometimes and i have the plug in bit for it :Giggle

Pretty simple really, immobilisers are only cutting a circuit, fuel, ignition etc

And as said above, no immobiliser will stop a car being lifted/winched only the back of a low loader!

Quote from: - Fezcat -;789412nah you wouldnt, we\'re not allowed to be rude to "customers" We\'d take the job and say "ooh thankyou" and send it to the area radio operator for info - but we dont have to

Any audble alarm calls not from an alarm company are closed unless something dodgy has been seen - we usually do our best to find a keyholder for the premises though.

So the police dont respond to an alarm going off unless the call is from a monitoring company?! and if its from a neighbour will only try to contact the owner of the property?!

Quote from: jetpilot;789407Many years back (15+) a good friend of my mine was a bit of a rogue, i shall say no more, he always said if they wanted to steal a car, regardless of alarms etc they would! An alarm was only ever a deterrent, if they saw a car with an alarm they knew some where up the road there would be one without and if there wasnt, they would go back, easily by pass the alarm and take the car! More often than not, they were as bold as brass about it!
So how come the buggers have taken to breaking into houses to get the keys?

I only know of three RX-8\'s that have been stolen and they were all burglarys (including mine). The police said they struggle to steal new cars without the keys so the number of burglarys has increased. I\'d certainly rather they had just taken mine off the drive.

And that\'s the reason I keep my keys a long way from the door, and my crossbow concealed, but handy.

I think this reflects on the most recent comments, the thieves are brazen, bold as brass and dont give a ..... Its probably easier to break into a house than try and steal the car of the driveway. When justice is served, if caught, its mediocre at best, so what have they got to be scared of? I caught one of the cops with cameras things the other day, they arrested a known car thief in a stolen car. 15 yrs old, already banned for when he does start driving "legally" till he was 24/26 or something and a rap sheet longer than my leg for car theft, breaking and entering etc!

Just like the recent chat about riots on here, the only people afraid of the police service is you and me, the law abiding citizens. But thats a whole different thread entirely.

Please the car has been recovered!

Not really what I said, and nowhere near as simple as i kinda said it

On our incident management system we have a record of incidents (actively) for the past 3 months, and have access to archived data going back years. so we can see previous history at an address.

If someone calls up and says

"theres a house alarm going off next door"
"ok, have you checked the property, have you seen anything suspicious etc"
"no its just going off, it does it regularly"
*checks on premises history and finds 4 previous false activations in the last 3 months and we\'ve not recieved an intruder alarm call from an Alarm Recieving Centre*

We dont attend, force policy is that it shouldnt be sent to radio operators. If we attended every single house alarm going off thats heard, we wouldnt have any police cars to do the jobs that we get!

on the other hand someone calls up and says

Ive just heard smashing glass next door, I know the occupants are away and the alarm has just gone off - we go on blues and twos as theres a good chance its a burglary in progress.

Everything is risk assessed lol - The thing is, people seem to think that police should attend house alarms, but if you think about it, why? lol

Most alarm systems these days go through alarm company call centres anyway. They have records as well of the previous activations. They risk assess it, if it looks dodgy they send it to us - and depding on the alarm, each property has its own attendance model.

Its complicated to explain dude lol

Tracker with GPS built in.....Auto alerts you by phone if the car moves a metre without the keys. Guards against Hi Ab theft.

Costs a once only payment for your ownership of the car.

Need to keep your mobile with you at all times though and you can never leave the keys in an unsafe place where they can be lifted.

I am sure i was recently reading somewhere that Tracker systems are as easily disabled as most alarms and easily by passable. As you say, if the thieves get the keys, how long would it take to get the car off site and disable the tracker, an hour tops, thats a pretty small window to notice your car is missing!

I also looked into trackers but organised gangs that steal to order will have the car in a container before you even know it\'s gone and then shipped to somewhere like South Africa.

My Sister works for Metcall and I have to agree with Fezcat - the police just can\'t respond to every alarm call.

Car theft is not really an issue here in Cy, but my FC is on the drive and my van covers the drive and the dog covers both from the bedroom window ;)
