Seen a few threads recently with people choosing 18\'s on the rear, 17\'s on the front.

Is this purely down to rolling inertia, weights or is it just for looks?

It might be the fact that you can fit wider and larger rims on the rear due to not needing to worry about rubbing when turning. It wouldn\'t be performance related as 15s and 16s are for performance, 17s are good compromise for show and performance, 18s are for show. Its why I have put some 16" FD rims on my FC as they are an inch wider, but are still the same size.

i would have said it was mainly down to looks but to keep height the same and as close to the cars original tyre height the profiles of the tyres front to back would be out and it would look stupid.

the 18" would have to have a 35 profile tyre whilst the 17" would have to have close to a 45 profile on it, my 18" wheels i had on my FD were different widths front to back, reasr were an inch wider, and because of this to get the car sitting flat instead of leaning forward i had 235/40/18 tyre on the front and 265/35/18 on the back. sounds stupid but thats what you have to do to keep the overall diameter the same.

Mitch as for 15\'s and 16\'s being performance sizes, thats bull im afraid, how big are the wheels on a nissan GTR??? i belive they are a lot bigger than 16\'s!! it depends on the car and what you are using the car for, if i was track racing an FD i wouldnt go larger than a 17" wheel, on a standard width car, but if the car was a lot wider you may be required to run 18" wheels due to them being offered in larger widths.

For drag racin you can run 15\'s, as you need as big a tyre to get traction without wheel spin etc, (no im not explaining every detail about why you need more rubber than rim)

If I have my own way (eventually) I\'d like 17s on the rear and 16s at the front, but I would keep both tyre sizes the same profile or it looks odd IMO with 1 tyre 45 and one 35! It gives the car a better \'stance\' if your into that stuff, I always think a car that \'leans forward\' slightly looks mean and once you\'ve had lazer wheel alignment/tracking and the like it won\'t cause any problems. I\'d find a few pics to show you, but I\'m on iPhone at home aka ball ache!

Tyre size to fit the rim is also dependent on rim width, my tyre profiles were different heights because tyre were an inch difference. dont ask me why because i dont fully understand it, my dad explained it to me many times but i just dont get how width effects height!!!

if you have a 1" diameter difference in the overall wheel front to back, that will take a lot of alignment to get right.

I\'ll be honest I don\'t know lots about it myself, but lots of track cars run staggerd fitment as well. I just think it looks good, but to be honest I won\'t go out my way to do it - if that makes sence. I guess something like this is a \'finishing touch\' where do you stand on this with MOT as well? Do all wheels have to be the same size? I have no clue.

Most Honda NSX run the same with a 1" larger rim on the rear, my 1st NSX originally had 16" rear and 15" front which i had replaced with 19" rears and 18" fronts........i did fit some 19" Veilside wheels which looked fantastic until i tried to drive it.......i couldn\'t turn the wheels as they were too big :rollin
My 2nd NSX had 18\'s front & back then my last NSX had 18\'s & 17\'s..........i don\'t half miss my last NSX :InLove

I have always wanted an nsx too. Got offered one for my fd when I first got the fd but I said no as I knew that the guy had abused to crap out if the nsx and wouldnt last long in my hands

Larger rims are needed to clear the massive calipers

Better off avoiding a rough NSX as the parts prices are insane!! My last one had an NSX-R horn button which cost something like £379.00 :2Confused  The NSX-R gearknob was around £280 and the gear gator was £135...........criminal :censored:

They look good but personally i\'d prefer a totally mint Spirit-R to an NSX-R ;)

So very very sexy :InLove
