I want a replacement intercooler. But what the hell is with all these side mount intercoolers. Impressa idealy wanting a aftermarket one in stock position. But non of the sellers even know or can provide details as to where these so called side mounts go.
The pipework is so short looks like stock replacement kit.
Anyone on here know?

Side mount won\'t fit, researched it loads. The side mount is actually only for the FD, there was a top mount for sale on eBay earlier in the week, have you seen it? Other options are very limited for AM replacement, you can get a very expensive RE-A one or an ARC bit that is also very expensive and even more rare! Best options are a custom v or front mount set up.

Top mount (like my ARC copy), V mount (like my Radtech kit) or front mount intercoolers are the only ICs that you can put on an FC, top mounts give less lag, but can be limited with power and can have issues with heat soak, Front mounts look cool, don\'t have much problem with heat soak, but can block cooling to the radiator and increase the lag on the turbo due to the extra pipework, V mounts are a good compromise giving a larger IC area, reduced lag vs a FMIC plus you can run a cool bonnet :P

I\'ve been researching intercoolers over on RX7club and apparently the front mount doesn\'t noticably increase lag, apparently when tested between the 3 the differences in lag were so minimal. They were talking miliseconds, which is something you would not ever notice on a road car. So it all comes down to personal preferance really. However worth noting that Mitch is right about the FMIC blocking some air to the radiator and the oil cooler, but this i\'m sure can be overcome with some well places ducting and air feeds or complete relocation of the oil cooler its self. Its also worth noting you NEED an aftermarket fan and radiator set up to run the VMIC (correct me if i\'m wrong) where as the front mount will be compatable with the standard items. Obviously a replacement top mount will require little to no modification, just checked and the top mount i mentioned on ebay has indeed gone and finding a top mount is no easy task :Giggle

Liam fitted a small FMIC to his stock turbo FC and the lag was quite bad, it should be fine on a slightly larger turbo as long as the pipework is the correct ID (not too big)

How was his pipework, i\'ve been reading that you have to modify a few things, but with fairly direct pipework its okay? Interesting to hear a few others opinions, anyone else have a FMIC on their FC on here? Chip in if you do.

I got my ARC top mount off a guy on here (Soldave). Very reasonable price and he can get his hands on them if you ask him too. Defo recommended.

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Fitting an FMIC is quite a faff on an FC it seems as its quite restrictive on space at the front, my ARC copy will be up for sale soonish though :)

Was looking at the v mount kit with rad on ebay but its 650 front mount is ok but don\'t like the in your face i have a turbo and a intercooler.
Im going bigger turbo gt40 so extra pipe isn\'t a prob bit it does add lag. I had a mr2 with full greddy kit very good and rere swapped for a gt4 one and i could notice the difference alot.

I think the issue with the FMIC on an FC is if you try and run it with the standard turbo as its quite small compared to the amount of pipework and core it has to fill before it starts to boost up lol

I have my V mount kit up for £500, kit originally cost £1200 lol

Im going down a different route with cooling now, selling the T88 and getting a TA45 :)

sorry for 500 i would rather spend the extra 100 and have a full brand new one that uses a fc rad. as i already have uprated hoses on the car i would want to keep them.
