hi guys,

got a question.....

If my FD is mapped to run an external wastegate, do i have to have it remapped if i take it off or plumb it back into the exhaust??

problem is, its just far too loud! iv got my neighbours complaining, my girlfriends neighbours complaining and i drew the line today when i hit boost on a road and a little girl covered her ears and was screaming, along with a mother that looked very peaved.... :(

i want a nice sounding exhaust but not too quiet, and i DEFINATLEY dont want a screamer....

help? lol

Cheers,

Jordan

You can\'t take it off as such as you need something to control your boost. You can plumb it into your exhaust though. A map check is always a good idea but  I wouldn\'t worry about it too much as you will be increasing back pressure so no real chance of it running leaner.

If it was the other way round and you had it mapped for a plumbed in wastegate and decided to run it external then yes defo would need a remap.

so, if i had the wastegate plumbed back in, would i not hear it on boost?

Yes mate that\'s right as all of the exhaust gasses will pass through your exhaust silencers.

There might be a slightly change is noise when the wastegate opens, but it will be silenced

Just buy a few pairs of ear defenders and give them your neighbours. Much cheaper option. Lol.

I think so long as you plumb it back into the exhaust a little further back than the down pipe you should be ok.

Or alternatively you could run a short motorbike silencer on your WG to quieten it down? This will be the easier option IMO

hang on... i think you might want to look at your exhaust because if your wategate is opening outside you\'re house you are boosting outside the house??? on idle and low revs it won\'t be making much noise... unless you are revving the :censored::censored::censored::censored: off it lol?? get a quieter exhaust lol.

this!

the wg should only be open as your approaching full boost. sure the exhaust isn\'t blowing? they make an almighty racket if there\'s a leak near the downpipe.

I find burnouts outside your house tend to pi55 off your neighbours whatever exhaust you\'re running.

Attach a motorbike \'stubby\' exhaust to it :burnout

Ive seen that done on an FC, but it does mean that there isn\'t much space under the car as it has to fit somewhere in the transmission tunnel...its usually taken up with transmission :rollin

lol thanks for the feedback guys!

well basically, its hard to hold a conversation in the garage while its idling! lol

when i drive steady on take off, sounds lovely.... quietens down alot..... but then i put my foot down, boost kicks in and then it sounds like what youd hear when satan is dragging you through hell by your hair with your ass on fire!!!

to be frank.... its annoying tbh! way too loud!!!

whats wierd is, neighbour who complained come to my garage eariler and checked it out! he loved it! so took him out in it and he was blown away.... when we came back, he bluntly said \'Get that f**king exhaust changed lad, or ill stick a sack of spuds in the pipe!!"

friendly kind of guy! :D lol

i think what im going to do, to be on the safe side is take it up to Pip at WGT, basically saying i want a new QUIETER exhaust, wastegate plumbed back in and a remap so it runs properly with new pipe..

sound good?

Grant Monkhouse

Yep defiantly. Your current muffler/silencer may have shed it\'s internals as this what happened to my bros FD, and it was unbelievably loud, repacked it and it was much better. Pip should get it sorted for you.

i hope so, dont know if the remap will be necessary though?

just dont want my girlfriend, family, neighbours disowning me anymore! lol

Perhaps look at getting a midbox if you don\'t have one already, mines a 3" straight through racing beat one, but the Nur spec is a pretty loud exhaust, try and find a dolphin exhaust.
