Hi guys,

As per topic title. I\'ve compiled a list of what to check, what do you reckon? Anything needed to be added?

RX7-FD 1992 Checklist:

1.   Compression test. 8.0 Bar new. Over 7.0 bar used. Under 7.0 Bar rebuild.
2.   Engine history
3.   Check oil
4.   Check coolant. Look for bubbles and smell for hydrocarbons indicating water seal failure.
5.   Start from cold. Slight amount of smoke for 5-10s not a lot and not for long.
6.   Check paperwork for:
7.   MOTs with advisories.
8.   Mileage continues to rise â€" not clocked and that change from kilometres to miles was done and adds up.
9.   Last time plugs and oil was changed.
10.   Make sure to know why the “Heat” light is on with the Apexi PFC.
11.   Check for rust in the arches and underneath the car.
12.   Check brake condition â€" wear and current disc and pad depth.
13.   Spare keys if at all.

Any help appreciated. Thanks! :cheers

Compression testing I used to think that the higher the better and altho this is true in many cases I hav since found it more of a indication of engine health by how close the test numbers are. For instance a engine with a low 6 compression all round could be a lot healthier than one with higher but varied numbers.

Check how it starts from hot. Also fd clocks go wrong all the time so don\'t be too put off it clocks or mileages differ. Oillowballs bushes on back and excessive drivetrain movement. What are u using to measure compression?

Edd1Ninety9

Well it\'s had a recent compression test with the printed results which are all 7.8 on front rotor and 7.6 6.4 and 7.6 IIRC. What cha reckon? He said for running the high boost on the single it\'s slightly better to have a lower comp to avoid the detonation. Just gives you a little more headroom.

Starts from hot perfectly, saw him drive it away after the test drive and when we swapped seats. :)

If it were me and those comp tests are correct i wouldnt waste my time going to see it:2Rolleyes Your really looking for nice even results ie 7.6 7.6 7.6 hth

7.8 to 6.4? Over 1 bar range?

Edd1Ninety9

Phew that\'s more like it! As long as it was recent (within say 6 months) that should be fine

Edd1Ninety9

Good so that\'s solid then guys? Yeah he\'s only done ~500 miles on it in 2 years and regularly serviced and it\'s been rebuilt by Rototechniks 5000miles ago so I\'m pretty happy. Sound good?

Anything else I need to check, rotary specific? :)

RyanT

That\'s a lot better mate .2 -.3 is nothing really to worry about but too much over that and it\'s worth rethinking.

ad4m1

Hmm 500 miles in 2 years? When was it tested? Is it worth getting redoneto check all seals are free

dthebuk

rebuilt by rx motors mate.

Compression test was done around 100 miles ago (drove up to santa pod yesterday)

And most of those 500 miles have been done in the last few months as I had the car off the road for 2 years :Thumbs-up
