Because i know very little about turbos and set ups of cars, other than the petrol goes in here and the oil in there i was after some advise.

What is the advantage of single turbo over Stock twin?

My mate how designs turbo\'s for Perkins told me i could upgraded both turbos (when i get rebuild) and i could get a health 400 bhp which set up correctly would be very quick as there would but less lag....

Is this the case? What other modifications would you need to run 400bhp twins??? I understand brake set up is important when increasing bhp but iam after under bonnet advise

 :D

monkeyboy

Sorry can someone move this?

See know nothing about PC as well as cars

If you are increasing boost assuming you are stock at the moment you will require the following

PFC
larger intercooler
change of exhaust system
possibly larger secondary injectors
mapping

this list is not exhaustive...

cheers

Standard ish set up, i have a Cat back exhaust (dont know make thing its a blitz) and apexi filters thats it.

SO iam looking at front mounted intercooler

How much ar injectors?

What twin turbo set up works well and whats the costs?

Whats the cost for mapping???

Donato

Intercooler - I would say if you are going for that sort of power then FMIC or V mount would be the way to go... Although there are not a lot of people in Britain that have gone V mount to my knowledge, i think carl can help you if thats the route you want to go.

Price wise, you will need to speak to people like pip, carl, jeff, tim etc here is what mine cost

I have just done

rebuild (new rotor housings seals skimming of end plates)+ street port - pip @ wgt
A non sequential conversion
fmic
pfc
removal of air pump
new exhaust
uprated secondaries
new intercooler pipes
apexi intake
mapping - pip @ wgt

pip did the rebuild and porting, i removed the engine, put it back in and did everything else, got my aluminium piping for nothing. I didnt have much change out of £6000 and i did a lot of the work myself...

Believe me, its fast as hell and well worth it!! :evillaugh

It depends on what you want to spend, and remember about insurance too, some companies don\'t like mods, or like to charge you a fortune for having them....

monkeyboy

Cheers for that i was thinking along the lines of about £8000 top end for mods to engine-rebuild ect so all looking good.

Wanted to build it up in stages but presume its better to get it all done at once.

What turbo\'s do you have or is it a trade secret?

What power you running at?

As for insurance i was quoted £900 fully comp on a agreed value policy of £18000 limited to 5000 miles per year.

This is a unlimted moddification policy from adrian flux brokers, (the shopping trolly max power guys actually do good).

This is a show car policy, sounds sweat (subject to a tracker cat 1 alarm and imob)

Donato

Actually i forgot about a couple of things, it was closer to £7k..

I did it all at once. Its up to you really, but if the engine\'s coming out then its best to do it all at once get it mapped once and your sorted! I have no experience of adding bit by bit so you will need to ask the do\'s and don\'ts of that to someone who has..

My turbo\'s are stock one\'s converted to run non sequential with an enlarged waistgate, im still trying to get the exact spec as i got them second hand.

Power? No idea as i havent had it tested yet, Pip has some mapping to finish as i need a boost controller to complete the job as it went to 1.1 bar as the stock boost controller isnt good enough. Im hoping for around the 300-320 at the wheels mark..

If you go for a single turbo you can go higher than that power wise...i coudn\'t afford to go the single turbo route at the moment, and around 300 at the wheels is good enough for me!

Cheers

If you are looking for huge power gains then the single turbo is the way to go, although if you can manage 400hp @ flywheel from the twin setup it will be very quick also??

I think currently the quickest twin is around the 380hp mark @ flywheel i think, someone may correct me as not too sure??:(

But for huge power its gotta be single turbo route, i believe Brian Ellis has just took delivery of the T51R setup rx7 so thats about as big as it gets, Dragon car running T88 setup, and Ant Fleming soon be running a T78 setup, and i currently run a T78 setup too.

Cheers guys for all your advice

I want to get 400bhp mark out of twins but guess its going to cost me big.....

what about NOS? anyone run it on a rotor?

What other option are out there i.e triple rotor?

Again iam wanting some ideas from you guy before going to the turning shops as there is not point wasting peoples time if i dont have the cash to back up my ideas....

My turbo building friend will take engine out and drop new one in so that should save me abit.

Donato

unless you have a couple of spare engine\'s and a few grand to throw away it would be advisable to say away from nos! :D

monkeyboy

Nos is a no no.......

My other option is to buy a modded fd transfer engine....

I know people will say why, but iv spent far too much getting the car to look like it is.

I have a carbon bonnet,  c west lights, mazdaspeed bumper on way and its going for a full re-trim over the next few winter months. iv got some rays skirts, wing and had her fully resprayed

Cud do with a damaged (in japan not anyone from here) Heavy modded fd engine anyone got one in there shed??

Donato

Hee hee, i went the other way and did my engine first, now i will have to scrimp and save to get it looking nice!

Good luck mate :)

monkeyboy

cheers

Well i went from a 1.25 fiesta to my fd so when i first got her i was needing a change of under pants most days....

Dont get me wrong iam still scared by her and in the wet its just not worth it, but i really want to get a very shinny reliable big bhp monster fd

From what i gather to add another rotor and make it a triple will be around £10k alone???

I think Rich (20B boy) will know more about that though??;)
