Had a guy pull up next to me at the lights the other day to tell me that my rear wheel was "wobbling"! Obviously I pulled over immediately and checked the nuts (tight), then got a guy standing around to watch me drive up the road to see if it really was happening (he said no).

Got the car off the ground and span the wheel to find that it does "wobble" - there is a deflection of around 1cm on the outer rim as it spins (i.e. looking down the line of the wheel, it moves in/out by around 1cm max.)

The wheel took a whack a while back and has been refurbished - RE-Amemiya AW-7s I think they are, three piece split rims. I took it back to the place that repaired it today and asked them to check on the balancing machine - the inside rim is pretty much spot on (no deflection), it is balanced OK and doesn\'t lose pressure. In fact, I must have done 1000 miles on it like that since it was repaired.

So, how safe is it to roll around on the wheel like this? I\'ve got the Blyton trackday a week on Saturday, so it either needs to be OK, repairable within a week, or somebody can lend me a pair of wheels to suit 255/40/17s! :o

you will be just fine, i just wouldnt put that wheel on the front of your car!

Neither would I, at 10 inches wide it might make turning a bit tricky! ;)

na just use massive spacers and wheel bolts about 6 inch long and raise the suspension right up and you will be fine :Giggle :Giggle
