Hi Guys and Gals
The EGI has a Power Steering Fluid leak and I am wondering where it is coming from. Brett said the PAS Cooler rots without too much help but I have just managed to get access of a 4 post ramp so I can get underneath it so I can have a good look. I was wondering where the PAS cooler is mounted and also other places to look out for and where it could be coming from.
If it is full on the dipstick, the dipstick will be dry in about 5 days if it is on flat ground. It\'s not affecting the EGI in anyway, at the moment I just top it up when ever it gets used (which isn\'t a lot due to fuel prices :Grrr) but I would like to get it sorted out.

The PAS cooler runs in front of the radiator - you\'ll be able to see it through the front bumper - check around the mount points - as they seem to go there first.  A tell tale clue is an \'oiled up\' radiator.

Marvellous I\'ll have a look when I get to my rx7. Not at my house because there are trees over the cars and the rx7 was under there one day, a bird decided to let one go on the passenger wing and slightly damaged the paintwork, you should imagine my displeasure so it is now parked round my grand parents house but i will get it up on the ramp in a few days when it is available.
Thanks Prof :Thumbs-up
And to the bird :flamed

Yeah they tend to go at the cooler  (the elongated U shaped pipe in front of the radiator) or like mine and leak from the rack itself at either end.

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

That looks lovley :Hammer
Thanks for that now I know what to look for.
I thought the cooler would have of been in front or behind the rad because it would get better airflow which intern would mean better cooling but I wanted to make sure. :Thumbs-up
Thinking of it thats the only place it could be :Hammer

Just got back from getting the rex on the ramp.
It is the cooler pipes and I have taken some photos and put descriptions with them.
I have found a company near me who custom make hoses and pipes that do all of the hoses and pipes for the jcb\'s where I work. http://www.hydraquip.co.uk/index.htm
Here is the link to the pics http://s1084.photobucket.com/albums/j403/wheelynutz/RX7%20PAS%20Leak/
It is only that place that leaks is where you can see it dripping but the rest of the system seems to be on its way too.

I can\'t see the pic\'s at work, but if it is the cooler itself that has rotted through causing the leak then maybe have a look in the local scrappy as the mid/late 90\'s Mondeo ones are very similar to ours ;)

The actual cooler itself is fine
It is just all of the pipework at the front

Prof

The cooler is pretty much just a pipe - it get\'s all the weather in the front so it\'s no wonder they rot so bad.

New ones are about £140 ish, so if you can get something made up or find a similar one - they aren\'t anything specific.

Good luck with the repair :)

I will do some digging as I want to fix it before Rotorstock :Typing

What can the pipe be made out of?
Does it have to be metal or can it be a rubber pipe (like brake pipe) or braided rubber pipe etc?

I\'m guessing it needs to be heat conductive material - as it\'s only out the front there to lose heat from steering actions.  Any metal not attacked by PAS fluid should be fine.  The stock ones look like Zinc plated steel.

They corrode around the clamps, I replaced mine with an OEM replacement, job done :)

i just sawed mine off and banged some braided pipe and an oil cooler on instead. Cost about £25 and took about 20 mins :D
