reason for wiring loom changes

did the fd series have wiring loom change plug style/config to fall in with obd advances??
 
 i.e. obdI to obdII
 
im still dedciding whether to buy an adapter , wire in a later loom or sell my wrong 95- ecu and get the right apexi ecu for my 92/93 fd lump....
