Question is it worth going single turbo! Or just non sequential?
Car is used weekends only?

Pro and cons would be helpful?

It will be on a streetported block!
Lag is what inwas worrying about with 1 big turbo!

best thing to do is to no what power u want first then u can get the sporting mods to suit
ive seen drift cars running stock twins on street port making good responsive power
u need to feel the lag relay it may not be as bad as u think also mappers can reduce some of the turbo lag

its down to what u prefer rely ive gone for straight power my friend has an evo 7 and ive done all the engine work on it he has told me from the start he wants response so i went with lightening and balancing fully forged everything and with a stock evo 9 turbo and ive not felt instant response like this also down to the mapper and he only making 420bhp and he still happy with the result

you can balance the crank and rotors on fds as well i never relay bothered

A single can have a more silky smooth power delivery too. I was making good boost at 3.5k on a GT3574 with a streetport. The dyno graph was very much a straight line all the way up to 7.5k. Makes for good feel on track.

Twins have more urgency to them, but don\'t make as much power and are far more complex. I did love my twins running at 1 bar making 320 at the hubs but the heat they produce is much higher than the single. I was making more power with 0.8 bar if boost with my GT3574 and there was far less clutter in the engine bay !

If anyone can give you a ride in a single turbo you will have a better idea.

hmmm.....
power wise not overly bothered.....just want stable power and very responsive... sound like sticking to twins is best....
but non sequential or sequential is the next question I question....

Hopefully adam will see this thread a offer a ride in his lol

Not sure if you\'ve been in both?

Ive test driven sequential and non sequential

Sequential was so much more exciting to drive - much more of a rush for sure :) (thats me though) :)

Id recommend trying both out before you decide as if you\'re engine is out or the turbo\'s off you might as well do the proper non sequential conversion (if you want it done)

RX7heaven

Mine is still twins and is sequential and made 346bhp at 0.9 bar at re worx. Only me and a mate have driven my car since it arrived from Japan and at the moment I like the feel/driving experience from the twins. I keep on thinking of going single turbo but struggling to justify it as rx7 as gone high powered on other cars I\'ve had and in hindsight would have wasted my money doing it. Seen some good second hand turbo kits up for sale recently too which have been hard to resist. I think that if got a ride in a singe turbo it would perhaps be a deal breaker as if it was as good as it gets I\'d be selling everything to raise the cash to do it!
Doin it for the Cars

Ive been in 3 4 rx7s in my live, 2 of mine my mates the and one I test drove all of which were sequential!
so I have nothing to compare to....when I take the engine out I want to put back in what I want and obviously its easyer when it son the garage floor to take the twins off the block lol

This will sound really pants, but the thing I noticed MOST was the fact that driving normally on sequential you get a "Tcshhh" sound when you change gear (not sure if it had a DV though :D

Its the chav in me trying to escape ;)

Had perfectly working seq twins, now a medium single. There\'s no comparison imho single all the way, ditch the overly complicated solonoids/ rats nest in the process and welcome to a new world of power your rotary will thank you for.

It can be a lot louder with a single, Can\'t beat it.

I do miss the low down get up and go, but after 4k the single is just bonkers. Maybe I\'ve got used to my setup now. Been looking at getting something bigger in place of the GT3574, possibly a GT3794r !

It depends what you want the car for, if the engine is coming out then as you say its the best time to alter the turbo set up.

If you have stock power then IMO sequential is best and good fun.

If the power goes up then sequential can be a handful when the second tubby comes in, say, in the wet.

If you want to go single then all the other mods/cost MUST go with it.

I had standard twins and enjoyed them but inevitably you want more power.

I am running 99spec twins now set up non sequential and think they are great but I have done all of the mods for the next step which is a GT35 which is waiting to on when the 99spec twins will be up for sale.

I like the non sequential feel and if you want to save fuel you can easily keep off the boost so on balance I would say I now enjoy the non sequential. But you can go further and weld all the flaps up etc if the engine is out to get better flow.

So if you want fast road and track then def go non sequential.

Hope that helps

Thanks Keith sounds like my original plan was best then! Non sequential it is!!!
How much do 99 spec turbos cost?
Thanks
