So I\'ve had my FC vert for 2 and a half years now and it\'s decision time, since owning my previous FD I\'ve always wanted another and I\'m in a position to get one again... However I love my FC!!

So I\'m after some opinions... Should I keep the FC and spend ££££ on wheels and suspension, maybe up the power to 250-280bhp ( tho I\'m scared of blowing the engine)... It\'s my daily so subtle mods that won\'t make it unbearable! Or extremely loud :s

And I\'ve saved alot of cash and will have a low FC, that looks great and fingers crossed will be a great handling car that\'s different to 99.9% of eurobox\'s out there

Or should I go for an FD, keep it stock and as clean as possible :) and have a very capable car out of the box, and pass the FC on fir a good price( since rx7\'s ain\'t selling!!)

Either way the car will be my daily driver, With the odd blast camping in the highlands :) so it does need to be reliable!!

Thanks

Richard

Keep the FC, more engine bay space and parts are pretty cheap :) plus \'its an old car\' so no way is it going to be fast :P

richrx

That\'s true I suppose :) it\'s a bit more of a sleeper  but im not sure how quick the fc is, even at 250bhp....

B.Martin

Keep the FC man, we love FC\'s!! The running costs when daily driving an fd are so much more and with 250-280 BHP you\'ll have a pretty quick car man!

Jit

FD... Parts are more plentiful and they\'re a very capable car out of the box and in stock form you won\'t mind driving it everyday whereas any modified car be it loud, rock hard suspension or grim interior will eventually :censored::censored::censored::censored: you off

I should have set up a poll!!!

2 for the FC

1 for the FD....

Some good points so far! A loud FC could be hard work, but would an FD cost much more to run daily?

I think you have to think of it like this:

Cost of FD = Cost of FC + lots of shiny parts + Fuel

Although my FC is part FD:

I like my FC because:

  • Its 91 or before, so emissions aren\'t too much of an issue
  • More engine bay space for larger turbo/other shiny parts
  • Single turbo
  • No rats nest
  • Popups
  • Its a cult classic shape
  • it has popups
  • Its defined as old, so is more of a sleeper
  • popups are included

Ha ha yes that\'s very true, especially the mathematical theory you quoted there :p without doubt the FC will cost me less, so it\'s a money saver to have an FC ... And it\'s not often that\'s said !!!!

I love the way my FC looks, but it probably needs some changing to keep my interest now, and without the pop up lights I think they lose a certain something!!

But a sorted FD seems a real good deal, you can get a rebuilt car for not much money just now!! I suppose there\'s at least worse decisions in te grand scheme of things to be making :)

I\'m in no rush at least :)

Having had an FD and used it a my daily for 4 yrs I can say the running cost are very high, fuel alone was costing £200 per month, now that may not sound much but I\'ve now got a focus as my daily and it costs £45 a month in fuel and I actually drive further in the focus and i\'ve not driven the fd in around a year so petrol has gone up since i last drove the old gal. Then you\'ve got the cost of regular oil, plugs and coolant changes, i did mine every 3-4 months and never had any issues with the engine, but it wasn\'t cheap. As a daily the FD was fun, but the temptation to boot it was always hard to fight, dont get me wrong i\'m not a speed demon but when there is a speed change and an empty road.... mean low MPG but a smile every time
If it was me I\'d stick to the FC mod her to a level you feel happy with and then save save save and get a properly sorted FD and a second car. Best of both worlds
:Laugh LOL

Well...When an FD owner tells you to stick with an FC you know what decision to make....

FC FTW!!

richrx

Yup those are high costs.... But still no higher than the FC!! at the moment I\'m £200 a month on fuel and get between 14 and 16 mpg, and the oil changes etc are all the same, so I\'m not convinced they\'ll be more.

I think the arguments fairly obvious though, the FC saves a good few thousand on purchase costs.... So what will make me happier? £4k in the bank or driving the FD daily 

Only you know the answer to that one mate :p

I\'d vote fd. Coilovers on daily are annoying as hell. Stock stuff on the fc isn\'t hard enough. Also the fd suspension deals with bumps etc much better IMO. Won\'t need lowering to look good and parts are easily available.

If I was in your situation I\'d keep the fc and buy a cheap turbo diesel daily as rx7s are really not the best dailys. Just depends what you\'re willing to put up with tbh!

\'91 FC TII - Drifter... Under construction :D
:burnout

richrx

Ha ha the problem is I don\'t know the answer!! :p

if I had the cash I would definitely have a cheap car and the 7 as a second car but I have a motorbike, so I\'d probably struggle with the paper work with the dvla never mind paying for them all!!

Ah looks like I\'ll have to make my own decision on this one!!!

I have 2 cars, my FC as a bit of fun (don\'t really mind if it will soon be capible of pumping in 6 litres a minute) but I have a reliable economical safe comfortable daily, my Volvo V40 1.9D sports lux
