Hi everyone need some help with my 95 FD, it\'s single turbo uprated secondary fuel rail apex power fc mapped by hayward.
The problem started to be fairly intermittent it wouldnt happen very often.  What would happen is that the engine just dies with no warning and all the dash lights die, once I have pulled over it all comes back to life on it\'s own accord and starts fine and drives fine.
Then last Thursday went to Alton towers and on the way it started cutting out loads aft about an hour of running fine, at one point I wasn\'t getting more than ten miles or so, eventually got to Alton towers, on the way back it cut out on me after only about 10miles, due to thinking it might of been an electrical problem I pulled my stereo out just to check all the connections, which seemed fine so I left the stereo out and carried on.  We managed to get about 50 miles, then again with no warning it cut out, but this time first there was a big missfire and when I started I back up it just kept revving itself to about 3000rpm, managed to get about another mile and cut out again but this time when it came back on it wouldn\'t start just turned over.
Got it back to mine and started looking into stuff, ended up finding that the main egi relay was broken so I replaced it and she fired up fine went out for a short drive and everything seemed fine.
But went out today in it and after only about two miles it cut out, but with no misfire this time and when all the ignition came back on started fine and ran fine, so brought it home and came on here.
The only other thing that might be relevant is that when it was mapped I got told the ignition system was breaking down under high boost so they put a relay in the system somewhere to make the ignition circuit shorter to help stop the voltage lost in the system.
Any help would be appreciated I\'m getting really stuck now, and can\'t afford to take it anywhere.

sounds like it may be a bad earth on the block under the plugs on the passenger side.
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

I will check both of these out, I don\'t think the battery is great I will get it checked.  Thanks for the advice anymore is welcome.

I have put a new battery on, and a new fault seems to of appeared, when I started the car up the heat warning light was flashing and the knock was right up on the power fc, when I drove the car down the road the light went out and the knock halved on the power fc. It seems to drive fine with no smoke out the back.  It seems a bit strange as the last time I used the car before changing the battery there was zero knock showing and all I did was put the new battery on.
Any help greatly appreciated.

When was the fuel filter changed?

dturpin

If I remember right it was about five years ago just after I got it.

Have you checked for air leaks etc? Sometimes the intake tubes get cracked causing an air leak meaning that the engine is getting unmetered air.

Is the connection on the battery nice and tight also the connection to the main fuse box to the right of the battery,  make sure all those fuses are tight and check the plugs on the power fc

I can\'t see any air leaks, and all batty terminals and connections are fine from what I can tell.
I have just been out in her for the first time this weekend and the knock only registered about one third of the scale on the power fc and then once I had been cruising around for 5min or so the knock went down to nothing and hasn\'t come back since!

Check that the commander is plugged in right and not a bit loose as if they are they can cause what you have said when going over bumps and the like.
