Sounds more like it Ian :) There\'s plenty of wires I can cut out already, but I\'m leaving them in till I\'ve seen it run, easier to cut afterwards than put wires back in!

Quite right, you really need to strip the binding off the loom and trace each individual wire as some link together out of sight inside the binding and what seems obvious can be misleading.
Best thing to do is get a spare series 2 engine loom and strip that..... you can then just swap it for your standard loom when you are happy with it.
You only need oil pressure, sump oil level, water temp no.1, water temp no2. and the alternator. When I did mine, I ran the wiring for the ignition retard system for the turbo as well plus another spare wire in case I needed it in the future.. even so, the loom was really minimal and neat...... well worth doing just to lose all the old solenoid feeds that went to the rats nest and the carb.

here\'s my new loom... now fitted and working fine...

Ah that looks much more like it :)

While I\'m in here and thinking of loom, can anyone tell me where exactly the main engine earth attaches to the block? I\'ve forgotten! I figure its on one of the starter motor bolts?

They are throttle bodies, that fit on to the Weber IDA manifold. So should get all the top end of the Webers, but with tune-ability for cruise, cold starts and idle that fuel injection offers :)

I\'ve never really been into changing carb bits but I\'m learning slowly with you experts in this field - so maybe just a butt end? :rollin

I might be in a position to help you out with the wiring loom Steve - I\'ve just bought a load of electric parts on eBay tonight and who knows ... there might be something in this lot.
Mazda RX7 1982
Most of the electrical Parts
Lights (front & rear)
Heater
Windscreen Wiper
Wiring Loom
Other odd trim parts

Hopefully collecting next weekend so I\'ll let you know what I find.

If theres an ignition switch in that lot, I\'ll bite your hand off for it! I stood on mine by accident a couple of days ago, and I cant get it to work right since

Hi Steve.
Did I gather that you have an S2 Radiator and Oil cooler going spare? I am a bit worried about mine so I would be most interested in taking them off your hands.
drop me a line at: john at jaccltd dot co dot uk (or 01865 383800) with a price?

Also, I shall be driving through Malvern this afternoon. If you see Miss January give me a wave!

Hi John

I\'ve only got the radiator, my s2 oil cooler was dead. The radiator is free to a good home. :) In fact I\'ll swap it for a passenger ride in the Elford :P

I\'m working in Leamington today, I\'ll be back in Malvern for about 7:30 tonight if you\'re still about t pick it up?

Thanks Steve. That would be great.

A ride in Miss January? Anytime....

However. I hope to be coming back through Malvern at nearer 5pm than 7:30, but you never know... Drop me an e-mail with your contact details? (I am not a "real" member so you can\'t PM me...) or give me a ring.

Apart from that I could come over pretty much anytime (apart from tomorrow  morning when I have a meeting at Birmingham Business Park, yawn).

If there\'s one in it Steve - your name will be written all over it (no worries).  Finally got a nickname for you too mate - BIGFOOT:rollin or perhaps RESTO MAN is more apt.

Hi John - see you\'re on the look out for a rad & oil cooler.
I just missed out on both of these (as a pair) last night on eBay
However there was a set which didn\'t sell a few days earlier, try this link as the seller might re-list it (Bristol. Avon area)

On an S3 it goes on one of the bellhousing bolts if thats any help.

Steve-A

Cheers Tim :)

I\'ve got it on the bell housing bolt thats long and goes through the starter too for now. Seems to be ok.

Will do a proper update later/tomorrow but tried to start her yesterday, and she\'s not running right. Its to be expected, I\'ve got a few gremlins to chase, I think I\'ve got a bad earth somewhere as the left headlight motor works fine but the right headlight will go up, but wont go down. I\'ve also got all the warning lights on the dash, e.g. water and oil level, even though I\'ve checked them loads of time and both are full.

All the warning lights? Might be the \'Choke and Check\' Relay stuck Steve. That\'s the bright metal \'U\' shaped can relay on the Nearside inner wing, fastened on together with another relay or two.

Can be opened and contacts cleaned if you\'re careful. Just a standard relay inside.
