Hi All

My 99 RX7 has an intermittant fault where as the boost gauge hits 0 (from -1) the car losses power and pops and bangs. Off boost the car runs fine but press the pedal a bit more and it pops and bangs again (at 0 boost). I have stopped the engine for 30 seconds, restarted and the problem has gone only to return sometime in the future. Does anyone know what is causing this intermittant fault?

Thanks

JayDee

Does it happen at any revs and is it a standard ecu?

Ceri

At lower revs it\'s fine (when it\'s having the problem) but don\'t know exactly what revs it misfires at but it is exactly when the boost needle hits zero.

Don\'t know if its much of a help but I had the same sorta prob with my car when I bough her. It turned out to be a combination of, bad+loosely tightned plugs and corroded HT leads. Worth a suggestion I hope

Sounds like youve got an issue with the solenoid box and its going into limp mode when it detects it. You need to take it to get the fault code from the ECU and its more than likely going to be one of the solenoids from the box which will prob mean replacing the whole box

Its been to REWORX and the as the fault is intermittent typically nothing showed up on the ecu.  Could it be somting as simple as a fuel filter? As the problem has returned since Chris at REWORx has suggested replacing the leading coil?

Thanks all for your posts the car is now sorted.

Changed the fuel filter - pig of a job - fault still there.

Noticed the misfire only happend when the car was run then stopped and left for a few minutes (heat soak).  REWorks suggested it could be the leading coil so Extreme Sports and Performance nr Bargoed South Wales, swopped out the coils and leads with good secondhand parts from a broken 7.  They also found 1 cracked coil and 2 broken earth straps.  Total cost £150.00  Car now runs like a dream.

PS for info.  While it was in there I had ESP to fit a double din radio I supplied for £20 and a complete new clutch fitted for £395.00.

Car now sorted:cheers
