Actually what I have done is ask Shell to sponsor me,they were very reluctant due to their oil reserve figures being somewhat exagerated, but they agreed to produce a really long filler pipe that would be attached to my local filling station with a direct hook up to my car,I have a 100 mile radius before I run out of pipe.
They of course will have make sure it is the same stuff that Michael Schumacher uses.LOL.
Kind regards

I am sure that should read, \'What Michael Schumacher sits in\' as we all know that F1 cars are controlled from the pits.... :bandit

Hi Carl,

How is the project going?

I want to thank you for your input on my friend\'s melting apex seal problem awhile back.  We are still not certain we found the cause, but we believe the curved leading edge of his exhaust ports is related to the problem.  The motor should be torn down this week.  Hopefully the damaged parts will provide some clues.

Best,

Chris Carlisi

Hi Chris,
Let me know how you get on with the motor. If I can be of any further assistance do not hesitate to contact me.
My project car is nearly there.
I think we will be trying to start the engine in a day or two.
I have handed some of the work over to a company here who have certain skills and equipment that I do not possess.
I am hoping to have it going in time for a drag meet in a couple of weeks.Time will tell though.
Even if it is running we won\'t be trying for any quick times just yet.Need to test for a while at first.
I will put up some post\'s when it is running.
Kind regards
Carl

You looking to take that monster to Pod then Carl?

That would be a treat to see and hear.  Must make quite a roar.

Carl!

Please ensure someone is there with a video when you fire it up, and take it for a run.

Be great to hear/see another na 4rotor running in the world!  :)
Thanks,

MillSpeed

Always wanted to find out, can you buy peripheral port rotor housings off-the-shelf or are they 100% custom? Also, is the e-shaft a bespoke item? I know there are some aussie companies making e-shafts for multi rotor engines, but have you just made your own? If so, what material did you use? Sorry for all the questions but I\'ve only just stubled accross this tread and I\'m extremely excited! A UK 4-rotor, BOOYAH! Can\'t wait to see vids.

You can purchase Mazdaspeed PP housings - V expensive, you can also build PP housings from standard housings blocking off water jackets and using inserts etc.

As for the E Shafts, Jeff Bruce of Precision Engineering in New Zealand makes them - guide on prices here:

               General Info on Rotary Kits

This is a general list of parts available to convert mazda 13b type
engines to 3 or 4 rotor variants ,only the modified parts are
listed as most others are mazda items or are easily fabricated
by a competent engine builder.
All prices are in NZ$ and are ex factory so no allowances for
shipping etc have been made .
NZ customers should note that gst is charged on top of these prices.

1. 3rotor crank assy NZ$2100 (12a based version same price)
2. 4rotor crank assy NZ$3200 (includes special rear c/weight)
3. Centre housing modification for 3 or 4 rotor kits NZ$700 (2 req for 4 rotor)
4. Thru stud set (10mm) for 3 rotor NZ$175
5. Thru stud set (10mm) for 4 rotor NZ$195 (12mm also available)
6. Dowel set for 3 rotor kit NZ$110
7. Dowel set for 4 rotor kit NZ$130
8. Direct oil feed for 3/4 rotor kits centre housing NZ$90 (2 req for 4rotor)
this mod is not a necessity only an upgrade for the oiling system.
9. Replacement 20B shaft assy NZ$2100.
10. 20b shaft assy , 3 piece with extra needle bearing assy NZ$2900
11. 13b/12a centre bearing crank kit (includes housing mod) NZ$1800

note that the centre housing mod cost is only for the mod ,it does not
include the cost of a std front gear or the housing ,these items esp
the housings vary greatly in price depending on the year/type. They
can be priced on submission of mazda part number.
Thanks,

Carl

To Build a four rotor engine requires alot of component manufacture and development.
The engine I have built used a custom crank that still needed further modification, as do all of the housings. This takes alot of time.
Then there is the porting which also takes a lot of time to work on.
All of the parts need to be balanced too.
There is much additional work needed over and above what Glenn has posted above to build a complicated engine like this.
It is very time consuming as well.
I am looking forward to it running at the pod,i hope it will be there for the 10th of October,
Don\'t expect any quick times though as it will need alot of fettling!
I plan to at least make one of the biggest noises there, maybe the jet car will be noisier?
Still lots to do,but as I said I hope it will be there.
Kind regards
Carl

I can imagine! How did you go about filling the ports in the side housings? It\'s so good to see someone taking on such an adventurous project, long live the innovators! Hope she fires up first time mate!

bummer :( first outing for the four rotor and I\'m going to miss it due to a rally being on the same night/day :(

Rally finishes at the earliest 6am on the sunday and then its a fair old trek from Norfolk to Santa pod and then back up to Lincoln afterwards.

Carl - did you mainly use new parts for your engine?

What rotors did you end up using?
Thanks,

Carl

Hi Glenn,
Yes pretty well all new parts.
The rotors are 9.7 to 1 compression, new too.
I have used Iannetti ceramic apex seals too.
Kind regards
