HI THERE - JUST JOINED THE CLUB YESTERDAY.MY NAME IS GRAEME.I AM FROM INVERNESS UP IN SCOTLAND.
I HAVE JUST IMPORTED A REALLY NICE 1993 RX7 FOR MYSELF AND PICKED IT UP LAST WEEK.ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY RX7 IS A MAZDA - RX7 - TYPE R - 2.6 - TWIN TURBO -  I AM NOT ENTIRELY SURE HOW I CAN CLARIFY THAT. I HAVE THE CHASSIS NUMBER WHICH IS  - FD3S-11???? . MODEL IS E - FD3S. IS THERE ANY OTHER MEANS OF CHECKING LIKE BITS IN THE ENGINE ETC.  I AM STILL CURRENTLY TRYING TO GET IT WORKING RIGHT AS THE EXHAUST IS  OVERHEATING AND IT WILL NOT START NOW    (LIGHT IS COMING ON AND UP EXHAUST WAS GLOWING ORANGE)  ALTHOUGH I DROVE IT FOR 300 MILES AND IT WENT LIKE A DREAM.ONCE I HAVE IT UP AND RUNNING I WILL STICK SOME PICTURES ON BUT IN THE MEANTIME IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH ANY OF MY PROBLEMS I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT. DETAILS OF MY EXHAUST PROBLEM ARE ALSO IN ENGINE TUNING FORUM.                                            REGAURDS - GRAEME(gja7)

*Edited * - I have removed the full chassis code, as it is not a wise idea to put this sort of information on the web.

Graeme, firstly welcome to the club.

Sorry I edited you post, but it is not a very good idea to put a chassis code on the web. There are some nasty people about. ;)

Have a look here at the model guide.

Welcome to MRC Graeme

Sounds like you have a blocked cat, this is easily rectified by either putting on a cat replacement pipe or removing the innards from your exsisting cat.

This will help establish your true year.

Welcome to the forum mate.

All FD RX7\'s are twin turbo mate unless converted and that would have been pointed out loud and clear when sold.

You\'ll also know the twin turbos when driving - first turbo runs from about 2.5k revs to about 4k ish, second then picks up about 4-4.5k ish and runs the rest of the way.  You\'ll probably feel the changeover.

Have a search in the buying advice section - you\'ll find some model info in there.

when your life is a mess light one more ciggaret its so logical!

Christopher

Wont the car be running lean if you poke away the CAT? Or is this a myth :)

Shark

it would basically be a cheap way of de-catting.  guess you would need pfc and remap same as a proper de-cat

Oh man, please take the caps lock off. Full caps on that net is normally used for shouting.

have a look through the front bumper on either side to see if it has 1 or 2 oil coolers. can help identify model.

I bought from a company who imports cars so it just arrived at the end of august but the bumper was damaged a little on the boat so i am currently getting that sorted then i will get it mot\'d and registered etc and get it running on the road.Bit of a pain  !

Whats everyones opinions or what have they done themselves with their own rx7\'s.Has anyone else decatted theirs ?
By the time i buy a new cat or decat it and buy a new ecu and remap it would it not be better just to buy a brand new exhaust like an Hks or a Blitz. I dont think there would be alot of difference in the price. But if i did want to go with the decat/new ecu who in scotland can do that cause in Inverness i seem to be banging my head against a brick wall and as it will not start i am having difficulties getting it anywhere to get an opinion ?
Also when u decat it how does that work with getting it through an Mot cause i dont think that will be emmission friendly ?
