Hi everyone. I am literally on the verge of dropping my newly rebuilt FD3S engine in but have had advice regarding mods and I really need more advice before I wreck it.

I bought the car with a decat, twin induction kit and also a non sequential turbo mod.now I\'m pretty sure the car was fitted with a different ecu but he didn\'t tell me. :(

So can people help me regarding what I should do? I mean I was thinking of going back to sequential but what does that entail? Or is it cheaper to get the whole thing mapped??

Hi there, if the car had a decat the ECU should have been changed as decatting an FD usually causes boost spikes and the engine might go lean and cause detonation and damage to the engine.

I would also focus on the ancillaries like fueling and cooling as these can sometimes be overlooked and the car can overheat on components that are 2 decades old lol

I would follow the break in procedure on whoever has rebuilt the engine

I would also make sure you have a mechanical boost guage and also a water or oil temp guage and take it steady to start with, if the engine overheats it could wreck the water seals meaning a soft seal rebuild.

I think the key bit of advice is to take it steady, keep the car well serviced and use performance fuel like V power or 99 RON stuff, a few extra £s on fuel or oil would help the engine run for longer, plus can give some more power.

Its best to have a check around what other people have done, what mods they have and the sorts of boost pressure/power/fueling they have.

spend yourself £500 and get a power fc and run it on a basemap until you can get it tuned properly.

if not you can run it on a stock ecu to run the engine in, but just keep it out of boost until you get an aftermarket ecu

Ok thanks for the advice guys.I have done the rebuild myself so unfortunately I can\'t ask advice from the mechanic.lol.but I will get an aftermarket I think.I have been offered a mines ecu.what do you think of these?just looking to get something cheap at the moment until I can get an apexi!

HaywardRotary

If you can\'t afford an Apexi yet then just use a stock ecu and don\'t go over 3000 rpm or give it full throttle, you don\'t want to use a mines chipped ecu or yuo\'ll pop the engine and undo all of your hard work.
