I am more in favour of the "low rider" look myself, but on the other hand, if we have another bad winter....

Ride hight is obviously a "personal preference" item and I prefer the "low rider" look myself, but I can see the advantages if we have another bad winter....

On a more serious note, I like the colour.... haven\'t seen one that colour before.

Yeh I\'m going low rather than high :P

Thanks for the photos Cliff, I\'ve got a link coming from RX Motors, thanks to Tim & Tim. :)

Still not got my quote from Jon at atomic rex, so I best call him tomorrow, stop this dragging out.

It\'s been a busy couple of days for me and the car.

First off, having roughly completed the rear end restoration work, I was in a position to mount my PCD adapters and the wheels for the first time to see how they\'d look.

To get an idea of what I\'d need to do the arches to fit the wheels in I also took a hack saw to the stock springs to replicate the approximate ride height I\'m after with the coilovers. In the end a good rolling and subtle pull will give plenty of tyre clearance.

I\'m soo pleased with how she sits on the wheels and really cannot wait to see the front sitting the same.

With lots of faffing with the springs and cutting down the studs to fit the spacers etc, thats about all I got done yesterday.

Today my new watts link arrived, thanks Tim! I was able to fit it and now the back end all lines up as I expected.

This gave me chance to play with my adjustable lower links.

I took a video clip, as its easier to see, showing how when the watts link maintains the pinion angle and the lower links are free to extend and contract to maintain that angle, just how much variation they naturally want over the suspension travel.  EDIT: see next post as it took longer to upload than I thought!

Using my cut springs I was able to put the axel in the correct place for my desired ride height and then adjust the links so I should get a minimum of binding at that height. Has anyone got an overall length for a stock lower link? Just for comparison. I forgot to measure mine before Bill cut them up!:Hammer

So with the rear end gone as far as it could for now it was time to move on to the front.

Ross came over to help me today and between us we set about stripping the front end.

After my disaster with the nuts/bolts/small components for the rear end when that storm overturned my neat trays, this time I\'m bagging all the small components and tying them to the large parts they belong to. Hopefully this should make re-assembly easier!

The front suspension is pretty damn rusty, so I\'m giving it a few days of wd40 treatment before I try to move any of it.

Still we managed to strip plenty from the engine bay area....

Before getting in there with the crane...

And ending the day with a fairly empty engine bay and a rather full shed!

Hopefully over the next few days I can finish stripping the engine bay and front end properly before starting on the metal/paintwork required. :)

You\'re shifting nicely on your project steve.
Car looks to have the right stance,you\'ll soon be ready for flares!

Hi Steve, How\'s that adjustable link gonna work again?

As the axle moves up the link draws out, I can see that. But don\'t you need the link rigid to hold the axle in it\'s front to back position?

Sorry for newbie question from an oldie.....I\'m strictly a street running dandy (well Paul Shane really from Hi Di Hi).

And watch that Ross guy.....He\'s come out as the sun\'s shining.....he\'ll claim his motor back soon, believe me.

Haha I know about ross. I\'m keeping my eyes on him :p

The links were only left free to do that clip to demo just how much they would need to change to keep perfect pinion angle. Im just using these links to measure up so I can get some new links made up. The new link will look just like stock, and be a fixed length, but will be a few mm shorter/longer than stock.

Got it thanks....you need a different length to standard but don\'t know what it is. Simples but good.

The overall dimension centreline of bolt to centreline of bolt is 500mm - see pic below.
Also the dimension between the two circular tubes i.e the length of the actual tube is 448mm - see pic below
