Anyone? I\'m moving out there in a few weeks and I won\'t have any friends!!

dudsey

Haha awesome post!

My mrs lived out there for a year and said it\'s very easy to meet people. Are you going to be living alone or with people?

You\'ll meet people. Greek Cypriots invented the law of hospitality kopiaste which translates approximately as "sit and share" meaning if you pass a total stranger having his lunch he\'s expected to invite you to share it. This is for two main reasons...one is that they\'re a lovely friendly people by nature and two is that Greeks are the nosiest people ever and want to know what everyone is up to all the time. I suspect it\'s not as popular as it once was, but the two points still hold true :Giggle.

Cyprus is the best place in the world, you\'ll struggle not to love it

my parents are moving back to the uk next month after living there for the last 20 years.  I  still have loads of family over there but wont be visiting as much as before.

Where are you going?  are you armed forces?

Unfortunately it is getting very expensive at the moment but is still a nice place, although not what it was.............

Thanks for all the positive comments. I am moving to limassol on the 1st, I am involved with retro furniture @ //www.vertigo-interiors.co.uk and we\'re opening a shop and a warehouse over there for a few tactical reasons. But it\'s a great opportunity for someone of my age (23) to run my own business, but without having to be responsible for the financial burden of loans etc.

I am going out on my own in April and my other half is joining up up with me in may, I\'m pretty outgoing so meeting people should be easy enough. Any from what I\'ve seen the people are very friendly, Not sure finding like minded petrol heads will be as easy, but looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Just need to get out there now and find myself a nice fd, I have my eye on one!

Petrol heads? Hell, yeah! Try Angelis Racing for armageddon-spec turbo fairingless Hayabusa monsters, for example!  http://www.extremecy.com/html/body_angelis_racing.html

You will find a lot of expats and RAF and Army personnel in Limasol as there are several bases nearby.   Limasol has some lovelly beaches and isnt as touristy as Ayia Napa.  Also,  the Cyprus leg of the WRC is based in Limasol and they dont know the meaning of health and safety so you can really get in the thick of the action,  I have watched it a few times.   They like their jap imports there as we do here so it wont take you long to meet some like minded people.  Limasol is at the base of the troodos mountains which are great to escape the heat in august as it can get a bit much but half an hour drive up the mountain and its lovelly and cool. I remember a few years ago Skiing in troodos and within half an hour i was in swimming trucks in the sea and it was still warmer than it gets here!

Good luck with the new venture,  i hope it is successful.

All the above is true and very nice to hear. I don\'t understand the economics very well but it certainly is getting expensive. I didn\'t click through your link but if you intend to sell to the locals employ them as the sales people, they do still like to deal with each other first.

Are they only motorbike websites? All the ones I clicked on were anyway, I don\'t suppose there will be many (if any) rotary specialists out there.

I may need to befriend someone over there stylus as my Greek isn\'t top quality!

My Greek isnt the best I can tell you. The difference is you won\'t be told off like a naughty schoolboy if you get it wrong :o :D

As far as business is concerned I wasn\'t talking about the language as Ant is right english is spoken to one extent or another especially in the tourist areas like where you will be.

I\'m there for a couple of weeks in August and if I get the chance maybe grab a week between now and then.

As far as cars go I don\'t get involved whilst there I\'m too busy making a holiday of it!
