Well, seems like our motorsport organization here in Finland doesent want that rotary engine powered cars are racing. They have stupid rules.

In one class is possible to race with rotary engine if you decrease engine displacement. One driver has done that, but i dont know how and who has done it. All i know that they have machined stuff out of rotor and rotor housing. In that class is a rule that says all engines has to be less than 2050cc displacement. And rotary engine has rule, displacement multiplied with 1,8. So then displacement with 12a engine is 2064cc.

Have anyone heard about decreasing engine displacement on rotary engines???

And funny part is that AKK (our motorsports top organisation) has given racers wrong information. Few racers have allready build engines and they are not allowed to race with them!!! You can imagine that they are very ....ed... Now, my friend and those other racers are waiting AKK´s respond...

PS: Carl, check your email. I did write you as soon as i heard about that. We just heard it yesterday evening... :(

How will they be checking if your engine complies?

Aside from running a single turbo rotor, i dont know! (assuming if thats even allowed in your regs)

BlitzBoy

yes how can they check that you have done the work?

I think the only way you could do it, is to make the rotors and rotor housings smaller in "width" by machining them down, then you have make changes to the e shaft, and counterweights, seems a lot of hassle.

You and all the drivers in Finland should protest and boycott your motoring federation and set up your own race series and deal directly with the tracks

I would of thought machining the rotor would increase swept volume therefore actually increassing volume CC but with a loss of compression? the only way I would of though would be to run witha restriction with reduced inlet ports ? Then maybe get some power back with variable inlet tubes ! big budget ? These are my thoughts only get some proper advice!

Well, they can order you to open that engine and check displacement.

I know now that only race car with rotary engine in that series is using that kind of modified engine. They have done all that, machined material off so displacement is reduced. I dont know who is done it. Rumours said that engine is build in Sweden.

As i said, my friend is now talking with that federation and with few rotary racers. We are trying to get some changes to those rules. It would help many racing series to grow if they allowe rotaries...

After all, racing is meant for viewers. And rotaries are quite "media sexy" ;)

it\'s quite funny out there, don\'t need to strip the engine to virify the engine displacment.
check with the  engineering ruler and measured the  width of rotor housing,
13B= 80mm,12A=70mm,10A=60mm and 20B-80mm.
the offset of the e shaft\'s all the same.
13B/12A can be milled 5mm off in each face of the rotor housing and used the 12A/10A rotor.
depanent what  year the engine is.cos of the Orings grooves.

I was talking about machining the width of the rotors and housings , not the actual compression faces/bowls of the rotors, from what Rotorheid is saying its do-able

Didn\'t see your reply mate, same time as mine LOL, was meaning from the first part of the thread ! got what you meant no probs.:Thumbs-up

True, you can see displacement from width of rotor housing. But would race judges understand that...

But mister Hayward just give me good news. So, we dont have to worry about no more. We can consetrate to show piston racers... :WaveBye

Still, will continue to fight for rotary engines and trying to get some changes to those stupid rules. Because if we can get them to aprove 12a engines, racers, engine builders and spectators will benefit... :Giggle

Periperal port it and then give the judges the chunks of housing you have removed to conform? :P

re japi

Good idea... :)

My friend did send request to Motorsport federation, about changes in rules. First board approved those changes. Now we are waiting that rallycross technikal board will approve them. So far looking good, because engine displacement multiplier *1.5 can be approved. So, 13b´s can race too. That technical board will meat at April.

But we have backup plan, if they dont. We can use those "mini 12a" engines. Good news that someone can and knows how to build them.
Me and my friend are happy that our project will move forward.
In 2012 season, viewers here in Finland can see one fast car with great rotary engine from UK! :evillaugh

Could you not use custom rotors without such a deep recess in the faces? That would decrease capacity but one-off rotors can\'t be cheap!

re japi

Do you mean rotors without those pools? (dents in rotors) I think that it doesent effect on displacement. Rotary displacement is calculated on surface witch apex sweeps, multiplied with rotors widht... (or something like that) :)
