Is it a good idea to have some EGT bosses welded into my manifold before I put the car and engine together to help with adding extra mapping parameters?

I am thinking of going from the Apexi ecu which I have already got to maybe a haltech, the main reason being for future use of the car and possible future engines.

I know the haltech has a lot more features on it than the apexi so having EGT sensors is a great idea for mapping, but I\'m not so sure about the Apexi? Would there be any use for these with that ECU?

I also want to know what benefit I will have in monitoring the EGT\'s? Will it make it possible to fine tune the map on the car?

It really is of benefit on so many levels. I\'ll give you just three pertinent ones.

Tuning idle timing:

the EGT sensors allow you to see how efficient the timing split and overall timing is on idle (the lower the number the better the burn) this is all but impossible to do any other way. While keeping the same AFR for example. It\'s great just for this reason.

Injector variations and manifold flows:

the EGT\'s in each pipe will show you when one side of the engine is working better than the other, you can then use your ECU if it has it to balance the injectors (assuming they are all flowing the same at the start!) to correct fro this unbalanced flow in the inlet manifold. This varies with engine loads as you will see when you log this info

Peak engine stress and misfire diagnosis:

EGT in each pipe will show you when one rotor is not firing under high power and with a weak ignition system, it can also help you identify a fouled spark plug (as EGT will go up on that rotor!) It\'s other invaluable aspect is a quantifier of peak engine strees and fueling mixture requirments, and also turbine housing and post turbo exhaust specs, all of these variables can be seen and quantified by EGT readings.

It\'s one of the most important tools to use, on a rotary you must make sure you use Inconel enclosed types!, anythng less will not last long term, turst me I know from experience (just read all my Aquamist thread).

Or you could get a dual EGT dial from pineapple racing to make sure everything is ok on both rotors:

Cheers Mitch and Peter.

Do you have any recommendations for a particular EGT Peter?

Can the apexi dataloggit record EGTs? I can\'t remember seeing the features on it when I looked at my bit of kit the last time I had it out??

Kriss

which is the better way to fit an EGT (or two...) with stock twin turbos?

Again,

I use a Blitz SBC I-Color Spec R boost controller, I input the EGT signals into this meter/boost controller, I use a dual EGT 0-5V amplifier (bought from horsepower freaks) and a custom set of enclosed Inconel thermocouples... it is the Don Mega set up for all reasons I have given many times over in various threads.

Stand alone data logging in the Blitz unit

Custom warning levels

Hope this helps people, I list all of this information along with pictures etc in my thread here and also on Aqumists site too if people want to copy it.

Wait wait wait... I express myself wrong...

I was not refering to EGT connection, as I plnned to plug it in the FC Datalogic...

I was talking about HARDWARE installation, meaning "where I have to drill to put the EGT???" :Hammer:Hammer:Hammer

Is possible to put them in stock exhaust manifold? Or is better to make an hole on the downpipe?

Vell

You want the EGT probe as close a possible from the exhaust port.
You can drill the stock manifold, it has been done by several people with success.
