Took the front caliper off to prep it for paint.

When i was washing them i took the 4 bolts out & had the caliper in two half\'s

When it came to puting them back together I noticed there is a recess around the fluid channel on the front half of the caliper where it joins the the rear half

Am i right in saying there should be a o-ring/gasket in here? if so anyone know where i can get replacments?

Cheers

By any chance is it the four bolts that the service manual states "Caution: Removing or loosening the caliper bridge bolts will damage the caliper. Do not loosen or remove the caliper bridge bolts"??

As far as i\'m aware the recess doesn\'t have a gasket, if you do a google search for "RX7 workshop manual" there\'s an exploded view of the caliper. You\'ll be able to order spare parts from Mazda as IIRC the RX8 calipers are similar - I got replacement caliper pins no problem at all.

EDIT: thread http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=412356 recommends a new caliper owing to total brake failure under braking once the caliper has been split...

Just got pdf of workshop manual, those are the ones, 4 Brodge bolts.

If the bolts were replaced & sealed with loctite & o-rings replaced surley they would be ok?

Any ideas on where o-ring replacments would be sourced?

You can get caliper rebuild kits on t\'interweb - I think Clive at mazdarotaryparts has some, or from Mazda direct, they include the piston seals and everything. There is a parts catalogue available online as well which may help you tracking it down.

But I stick to my point, how much loctite will convince you that your caliper won\'t split? and is it something you really want to take a chance on??

I sold a set of these kits to a member last week.

If you need them they are £33.65+VAT each and I can offer a 5% discount on each kit (£38.36) Postage would be £8.50+VAT (£10.20) for either 1 or 2 kits.

Alternatively I have a few old callipers on the shelf that are in good working order

Hey, Atomic, you still got those kits? They\'ll do an FC too right? Will I need one or two kits to do both front calipers? Or how much for both front calipers you got hanging around?
