Hi, On most exhausts you can get a silencer which is just a baffle thet slots in tail pipe does make a difference, as for height i can only really suggest replacing suspension for adjustable coilovers or removing splitter when on track ???
In the pic it does look quite low its lower than mine and mine scrubs the whell arches on bumps.

Hi GonzoDave,
Thanks for that. I\'ve just been bumping the car up and down on each corner to test the shocks. The right rear will spring up and down for 2 to 3 times. All the other corners just once. So that means, I presume, the right shock is knackered.
Now, would that explain why the splitter at left front was scraping the deck? Would the right rear tend to lift up more and push the opposite side of the car down (left front) ?

Anymore info on where I can get one of the baffle unit for the exhaust?

Thanks
Adrian

I would get a second opinion on that before changing parts but if one corner is more slack than the other 3 then i would say something is not right, see if there are any other rx owners near to you that have mechanical knowledge that can have a quick look. As for the exhaust the last exhaust i bought was a blitz and that came with the removable baffle, but you could always have a look on ebay see if there is anything going cheap, its only a metal insert so should not be expensive,

There are some decent exhaust options more effective than a baffle but they\'re premanent.  I went with the Racing Beat setup and am well below any required noise limits but you don\'t have the option of very loud!

Suspension does sound suss!

I see, the baffle is one of these (or similar)
described as "Nur Spec R baffle. SUS304 stainless. 60.5mm internal diameter. 260mm long"
I guess as long as the diameter is suitable and the length doesn\'t obstruct any internals then it should be OK when screwed/bolted in place.
Anyone tried these?

Apexi do some options too, I posted somthing up on the RX8OC about their Apexi ECV (exhaust Control Valve) its a butterfly valve that installs in to the exhaust system that can be opened and closed to help control noise, though i currently dont know of any 8 owners that have used them and not sure what it would do to a Turbo car with the increased back pressure it may create.
they also to s cimiler silvncer to the one you posted.

I do not claim to be an expert on the RX7 but pust putting some options forward that may be worth more research.
I must say your Yellow 7 did look and round awesome at Brands.
If you want i can copy my post from the RX8OC about the Apexi ECV just let me know

Thanks Arnie, yup I don\'t want to destroy the sound permanently - it sounds good.
Looking at the ECV option, I see that there is general apprehension about the butterfly valve apparatus. Have you fitted one?
As I want to do more track days, I guess quietening the exhaust down permanently with a proper silencer is the sensible option. However, I would like to check out the temp baffles (pic above) as that will be a pretty cheap option (50 quid).:Thumbs-up

The Apexi ECV\'s are controlled by controlled by a cable system like an old fashioned choke lever.
Though I guess even if it squeezes you through the initial noise test to start with it\'s a start.
I have not fitted one myself as I have an 8 and it\'s not vetting anywhere near the noise limits yet the highest I have registered is 98db at cadwell park in June
I\'ll dick out the links to Apexi\'s offering and post them up later for you dude

this on twins and a standard downpipe?

maybe its worth looking into a downpipe and pre silencer, a decent mid silencer and a decent back box?

propper silencers shouldn\'t cause a big power restriction

wait... four inches from the ground static? that\'s way too high, i bet you can still get a trolley jack under there :D

ive had the Apexi ECV... it failed completely!

ill try and dig it out and take a picture - but basically it overheated and singed its mechanism off causing the outer mechanism to pop across the road and fuse the valve shut.

When i contacted Apexi all they said was "the valve got too hot - its a common problem with this item"

and then promptly refused to help any further :/

At that noise level I would assume it\'s been de-catted - I would just  stick on a silenced cat replacement pipe... you can buy these ready made  but a local custom exhaust place should be able to make you one for  less and it\'ll include fitting it to the car

Laeeq

It already has a silenced midpipe and back box.  The back box on that car at present is very free flowing + street ported engine will sound louder and better:D  If you want to reduce the noise then i would just replace the back box with either mazdaspeed or similar exhausts.

Having a bung and using the car on a track can\'t be a good idea?

I certainly wouldn\'t use an ECV on track - it\'s not really what they\'re meant for. You need proper silencing - so a new backbox/extra silencer etc.

If you\'re bottoming out it would suggest to me that you either need to try knocking up the compression damping on the shocks, or increasing spring rates.
