Hello,

I\'m quite eager to get my double din Kenwood md/cd player fitted in my car. Wired it all up, works fine but it\'s having to sit in the hole at the mo which is super until you put a cd on and go over a drain cover ;)

Can anyone guide me in the bits I may need, dunno if anyone else has a Kenwood double din... I\'ve tried contacting Kenwood UK who were about as much help as a dumb monkey, i\'ve written off to Kenwood Japan in a hope they\'ll understand Engish.. any ideas peeps?

thanks in advance

Andy

Andy,

I haven\'t take the dash apart on my rx7, but if it is similar to my old Honda Prelude and WRX then you will have to attach the radio by using screws into the side of the radio. I had to take apart the dash sides to do this on the WRX, so you might have to do something similar on the RX7

You will have to make sure the screws are quite short, otherwise they may damage the radio.

I have not seen any removable radios in japanese spec cars, I guess they don\'t have our problems with theft!

Hope this helps,

Andrew

Hi Andy

I\'ve got a Japanese Kenwood double-DIN which came in my car as well (DPX-4000 I think). That is mounted in a metal cage, which the head unit is then screwed into. I don\'t know how the metal cage is mounted, but if it\'s anything like the single-DIN Kenwoods I\'ve fitted in previous cars, it\'s just a push fit. Not sure this helps as I\'m not sure whether you\'d be able to get a cage in the UK, although I think Kenwood do sell some double-DIN over here.

My advice would be to contact your local ICE specialist (and I don\'t mean Halfords). I\'m sure any decent one should be able to get you a mounting box to fit, and would probably do it for a ride in your car! :).

I\'ve found a picture that Miguel took.

And I\'ve just noticed that the plastic surround around the radio is no longer in the car. You can see the screws and the mount. Might have to ask Motormall about that...

Regards, Andrew

Andrew/Andy,

The cage part of your post sounds like the sort of thing I was trying to talk about, in my previous cars it seemed to be part of the car rather than something that came with the radio.

Sony do double din units, so maybe they have some sort of cage you could use?

Hey Andy\'s/ guys,

cheers for the help! Thanks to boltoa for that pic too. I got an email back from Kenwood (Jap) and they said I can order the part / plastic surround from Kenwood UK (who had previously said "wha..dunno wot yer chatting about mate). Think there\'s a generic part for the plastic surround.

As you can see form my pics though it is missing the metal cage it\'s sposed to sit in as well as the plastic surround. Gonna see if the lovely Miguel can help with the cage, if not I\'ll try and force Kenwood to gimmi one of them too

If you want the plastic surround I can give you the contact for Kenwood with a part number too boltoa, pm if you wanna know the details.
