lost boost on primany turbo

Hi guys , this is my first rx7 gen3 i don\'t know an awful lot about them ,i\'ve had it a month its had a re-build by WGT , both turbo\'s have been re-built , i was driving home today first turbo was hitting boost at 3000rpm i had to slow as the traffic was starting to que it normally ticks over in drive at just under 1000rpm. as i was sitting there the cat over temp light came light thought nothing of it (my evo used to do it) i\'ve then gone to pull off at the island and the car wouldn\'t rev i had to drop it down to low get the rev\'s over 3000rpms till the second turbo came on boost ! any idea\'s on why the first turbo isn\'t coming in ? Theres no smoke , no noise. i got it home and it just doesn\'t sound like the first turbo is working when you rev it you can hear the second one run then slow but not the primany !

If you still have a Cat fitted, check it hasn\'t pooped itself after getting too hot and blocking the exhaust. Worth a look anyways.

First up welcome to MRC :Thumbs-up,

Always difficult to diagnose down the internet,

As Pip did the work I would have a chat with him in the morning,

With the twin turbo in its stock piped set up unless it see\'s boost on the first turbo it won\'t change over to the  second turbo,

I would say it has either a split intercooler pipe or one of the small hoses has come off.

Thank you for thr warm response.I will call WGT this morning ,have a word with them before i look at the car. I had a R32 skyline that did somethink the same that turned out to be the ceramic exhaust turbine on the turbo broke off LOL. Whatever i find i\'ll post on here even if its daft lol. As it may help someone else Cheers Mark...

Well i\'ve had a good look (without taking it completely apart) i couldn\'t see anything , i started her up , she started let her get up to temp. took the air box so i could listen to the primary turbo better, gave it a blip (rev) turbo spooled up made boost ! at 2800/3000rpm no strange noises , so i put air box back on turned her off. Left her for 20minutes while getting changed , when back tried to start her didn\'t want to know ! then she just started (strange). Took her round the block hitting boost all ok ,then as i was slowing down to put her back on the drive back to square one again . I\'ve had a word with WGT it could be solenoids , loose pipe etc, so think it has got to go to WGT because i haven\'t got a clue lol.
