Great Job Ian, this car is going to be one to treasure.

Possibly check classic car ads for machine shops? I would guess that my local one, Arnetts in Doncaster will still do disc skimming (but actually haven\'t been in there for years).

Excellent work Ian - not a job to be rushed, should be better than new when finished.
Happy New Year.

Looking awesome Ian. :)

I\'d be scared to drive it, looking that shiny underneath, incase it got dirty :P

Quote from: Ian65;737267Sorry Shaun, it\'s long gone... I skipped the remains of the old shell as soon as I stripped it last Feb.

No Problem, realised later on !

The respeed bushes are very good. Been running them for over a year without a single issue.

After 12 months, I’ve finally got the engine onto the bench to clean it up and get it ready to drop into the car…

The oil cooler has the usual leak under it and needs the O rings changing and I’ll drop a new clutch onto it as they are pretty cheap and easy to do while the engine is out.

Time to get a can of engine cleaner and tidy it up….

Brilliant thread!! Loving the work :)  Im doing a similar thing on my FC, after reading yours I know im doing it right  ;) :)

CHC (RIP)

You\'ve got a brilliant working surface there Ian.  My garage isn\'t large enough for a full work area as your - very jealous.
Must make life a lot easier for stripping down and laying out, also reduces the risk of mislaying anything, lucky man.
Keep it going Ian - doing great.

A change of plan and a right result...

This car is now going to be an Elford turbo so another turbo\'d 1st gen will soon be on the road.

I\'ve managed to do a deal and buy a genuine Elford  parts car with all the original bits still in place and working....
the engine, turbo, ignition control unit, boost control, exhaust, heat shields etc etc...
The body is shot but the engine purrs like a kitten and it has a load of paperwork and receipts for work done to it over the years inc an engine rebuild at RX Motors.
It also has a club valuation certificate for 4 grand from the year 2000 which is hard to believe from the look of it... it\'s spent the last 12 years on the coast in St Mawes and the salt air has ravaged the bodywork...

all I want though are the mechanical bits. I wish I\'d have found a car like this before I did my previous conversion... it would have saved much time, research and head scratching.
This engine is basically a plug and play... drop it out of the s2, a quick clean and maybe a clutch plate and then straight into my car... sorted!

Here\'s a few pictures...

and a couple of videos...

I love it when a plan comes together!

syebba

Haha,unbelievable!

Makes sense though.
Is that rear spoiler fibreglass, instead of the usual spongy rubber?

Ian65

yeah, they\'re fibreglass and bolt on. I think they are one of the nicest spoilers made for the 1st gen... I actually prefer them to the factory rubber item.

syebba

Yep i prefer those rear spoilers.
Looks like you\'ll be able to save the front spoiler to.

How did your missus react when she saw it?
Out of interest are the interiors any different on elfords?A few extra gauges, maybe different steering wheel?

I\'ve lost track of how many you\'ve got now,is it 3?
ta stu..

I like those decals too, obviously stand for injection?
Wonder if Elford put them on.
Well done Ian!
