Blimey !!!!

Got an email back from SPA Design with prices for the gauges

Oil pressure/Oil temp - £126.60
Water temp/Fuel pressure - £126.60
Intake temp/Exhaust temp - £118.11 plus £69.74 for intercooler adaptor box , £19.11 for themocouple , £69.74 for EGT adaptor box and £43.48 for a k type thermocouple

and the dreaded VAT needs to be addes on top

WOW a whopping £673.72 for a few gauges plus about £70 for a tripple pod

That was a bit more than I was expecting but I suppose that is for 6 gauges could get it down to about £550 if I dumped the water temp and fuel pressure

how does it compare to what other people have paid ?

Thanks guys, they are cool guages.

I dont think the price is too bad really, you would pay £100 ish for a decent single guage, i would probably go with oil temp + pressure and a boost and something else guage. i think they would be the most important to monitor + maybe air fuel ratio.

Fish

OK you get to monitor 6 things, instead of 3 for about the same money.

If you think that is expensive, do not look at the Defi gagues.

I would never pay those prices for the EGT sensors. Get them from RS Components, a hell of a lot cheaper.

Fish

Tintin

Fish ,

that is a fair point , however I did find the defi gauges for £380 ish for oil temp , oil pressure , water temp

still can\'t decide what is most important to keep an eye on , obviously oil pressure and temp are quite critical , water temp is also one I\'d consider being really important

but as Fish stated oil temp can give a better idea about engine temp , but would this give an indication of low coolant

I suppose intake temp is worth knowing as well , don\'t quite understand why EGT is important ( if someone knows please tell me )

I would consider air/fuel ratio quite important as running lean is a big no no , unfortunatley SPA don\'t do a matching one

EGT as like AFR are used primarily for tuning (mapping). A lot of the tuners that I know prefer EGT to AFR, as it gives better detail of what’s happening.

If I was going for 3 single gauges I would take oil temp/press. and water temp. Intake temps fall in the first section, as the PFC could give this information.

The other worth thinking about is a boost gauge. And I wouldnt use an SPA for that.

SPA will make gauges up as per your request. ;) Not that I am trying to get another SPA user. :D

Fish

Tintin

already got a RE Amemiya boost gauge so that ones covered

I do fancy the dual digital gauges so i think I\'ve definatley decided on oil temp and pressure on one

Just gotta decide what to get on the other one or two

another option is a 4 in 1 gauge I \'ve seen , its got oil temp , oil pressure , water temp and air/fuel ratio

its 3.75" gauge and its only £150

Forgot to say , already got an RE ECU so don\'t think I\'ll be going down the PFC route unless I decide to play around with the engine a bit

Fish

Can you remember if you could get all the intercooler adaptor box , EGT adaptor box and relevent probes from RS as this is whats punping the price up a bit

OK, below are the links to the relevant pages on //www.RSWWW.com

Sensors â€" K Type
http://tinyurl.com/5rajn

Sensor Compression Glands
http://tinyurl.com/3zz76

Link to main sensor selection
http://tinyurl.com/4qj8r

As for mounting, we used to drill and tap it using the glands.

The only bits that I missed are the connectors for the SPA adapter box.

Fish

Tintin

Right had a quick look through the site , unfortunatley as I\'m not entirley sur what I need I\'m not much wiser

I understand about mounting the sensors using the compression glands

But I\'m not sure which sensors are required , and when you say you missed out the connectors to the SPA adaptor box do you mean plugs for the adaptor plugs meaning you hard wired the sensors or you just missed out the adaptor box and connected the probes directly to the gauges

Sorry if I seem think but I\'m not quite sure how these digital gauges work , I understand how mechanical gauges work but all this talk of adaptor boxes and control boxes I\'m getting a bit lost

Did you fit yours yourself ?

I fitted mine with a friend, doing his and my car that same day.

I used the 228-7489 (3mm, 25cm) sensor. I picked this one because of the heat of EGT. For inlet temps you could get away with a 1.5mm sensor (228-7445).

I used the 381-7340 gland.

And finally I used one of the following (pink in the picture, but green in real life), but cannot remember the exact part number.

That link dosn\'t want to work , can you describe it and I\'ll try and find it in the catologue

Also how did you go about connecting the probes to the gauges ? directley wired to the gauge or through a couple of there adaptor boxes ?

Alternativley you could be a sport and connect mine for me , I\'ll buy you a pint or two of shandy ;)

Dont know what happened there. Try this one.

The SPA\'s use an adapter box, so using the conenctors above. Well its easy really.

As for fitting, sorry far to far up north for me. :( Its not that hard, honest. ;)

what about omori gauges??, ive got one of there boost gauges seems pretty good. see them on ebay us every so often. http://www.omorimeter.com/

Tintin

Fish ,

every time I try and open that link it comes up with a page saying \' session timed out \'

very strange , all the others seemed to work

Gauges are gonna have to wait for a while now though , found out I\'ve got a buckled wheel , which a mate told me would fook up the suspension , wheel bearing and driveshaft if left ( I didn\'t think they could do so much damage ) , anyway did a bit of ringing around and was told no one will fix a buckled wheel so I\'ve ordered a new set of rims

Pain in the ass as well because I couldn\'t get the ones I wanted coz they don\'t make them wide enough to fill my wide arches , i the end I went fo some Momo Quaser 2\'s , I hope they look right as it was the missis who found them , fingers crossed
