My fd is at a rotary specialist at the mo getting a few things done before it gets remapped and ready for the road.
Got a bit of a shock today as i was told that my brand new clutch is fake!!! I couldn`t believe it. It was brought from a genuine rotary supplier too.
It had barely 300 miles on it, now i have to get another one. It really bugs me that these criminal gangs are getting away with this, putting me and others out of pocket. I would understand if it was ebay or summit.

Anyone on here brought any fake car parts?
Oh and before you ask im not naming anyone.

My mate bought a \'genuine\' HKS bov for his GTR Skyline........the packaging was ..... and so was the bov :spank

As a reputable genuine HKS dealer we were sent this around a year ago quite an interesting read

Dear Dealer,

It has recently come to our attention that imitation HKS products have reached the market in certain areas of Asia. Although we currently have no evidence of these products reaching Europe yet, we believe there is a high risk of these entering the market.

Some tests in Japan have concluded that their performance is inferior and potentially damaging to vehicles and these items can be difficult for an untrained eye to identify.

Not a good thing but at least its not your medication. Watched a documentary on it last year that was truly shocking the level of faking !

Same thing happened with Walbro pumps to - I got mine from the US, and it was genuine - but our Chinese cousins make ever better and better copies - to the point now where they will actually replicate stamped numbers, moulding marks and labels - so the copies will only get harder to tell apart :(

The Walbro copies performed identically with their real counterparts when bench tested, but obviously these are not tested over time, nor can the quality of the pumps be guaranteed from one batch to the next unlike the originals.

It\'s also worth watching out for Exedy clutches - Exedy will no longer sell disks on their own, only kits as a result of the copycats.  The poorer copies have not been heat treated and the friction material is pants too.

Arguably if people like HKS didn\'t add a hundred quid per letter they stamp on the part (that\'s three for those who weren\'t following lol) there\'d be less market for knock-off merchants to exploit. I know there\'s a very strong argument that you\'re paying for the R&D that\'s gone into it and the superior quality of materials use in construction over Chinese rip-offs, but I still find it hard to understand the gargantuan mark-up on genuine aftermarket parts.

HKS are definitely the worst, I mean 550 quid for two bits of bathsponge, a couple of plastic showerheads and some silicone pipe, WTF is that all about!? It wouldn\'t be so bad if it wasn\'t a hopelessly compromised design that\'s generic to every car they supply for, only the fitting pipes change from kit to kit so they cant even claim years of R&D has gone into it. They bloody well enrage me.

It\'s the same old argument, when CDs were like £18 a time everyone bought rip-offs. When downloading and cheaper imports meant no-one bought them at all, suddenly you could buy a genuine manufacturer\'s copy for a fiver, anywhere. People won;t pay a price they think is unreasonable if they can get something percieved to be within a few percent of genuine a lot cheaper, especially when money is tight. Greed amongst the manufacturers is contributing to their own downfall.

...none of which is any comfort or justification for situations like the OP found themselves in, that\'s just plain wrong!

Agree with you there Nik ^^^
The prices for genuine parts is astonomical! and to be honest this country doesn\'t help with it\'s Tax system! import tax, duties & then another load of tax on that to round it up!! then there is the shipping charges with in the UK! I bought my  FD clutch from the states a few years ago when it was almost $2 to the £1, I managed to get the clutch from a genuine Exeddy dealer, deliverd to the door, for about £100 cheeper than I could get the clutch alone (with out delivery) in the UK! tell me, where is the sence in that?
In cases like that, the UK econemy looses out, along with UK companies, but at the end of the day why should the consumer pay an extra £100 for the same item..... OK it took an extra 6 days to get here, but personaly I\'d rather wait for a bit!!

As to knock off gear... yes it\'s of less quality than the original, but in most cases you would probably find they are better made than the genuine ones! The email from HKS above, yes I agree they are trying to eliminate the clones, but at the end of the day, if they strapped it to their test gear and found out that it performed better, would they tell you this?? I think not, they would (what ever the results are) say it\'s of inferia quality and would cause damage to protect their product sales!
