CHC (RIP)

I would have thought you would start with the FD and work up to the FB - 1st Gens are definitely the best!

Quote from: Hobbawobba;720589Haha sweet, looking foward to it. I\'ve only seen 2 7\'s in malvern before, both of which seem to of been passing through.

Ah yes, I walk past them every day when I\'m walking to work!

Whoops! I should of said it before, but I don\'t actually have a 7 :( . I am trying to learn as much about them as I can before I hopefully get an FD one day! Although it would be cool to get an FB to learn in, depending on how much insurance is? (I\'m 20 and don\'t yet know how to drive :\'( )

Possible to learn in an FB but no power steering, fairly heavy transmission and manual choke. Plus the insurance Co would probably have a fit since DVLA rate them as 2,300cc.
It\'s not that they\'re fast; in comparison to a modern GTE/GTI they\'re not, but as I see it the insurance would be 20 years old = 2.3 litre sports car .................Niet, Non, No Way.    :3gears-rh

Also you cannot display the \'L\' plates vertically on the bonnet...:Giggle...Put the lights up and stick one each side for the test.....NOOOOO.  Joking.

Yeah, personally I think its pretty stupid that they are insured as 2.3. But I have been on the comparison websites and they seem to quote around the same as a 1.4 civic for me. Still no way I will pay that price though, around £2.5k-£3k, what a joke!

Anyways, saw the mx5 down retail today haha. Didnt hear it running though. :P

We\'d all agree with you on that one Steve, b****y red tape beaurocrats who didn\'t have a clue what they\'re talking about when they classified these engines and as for insurance companies, all they want is money.  They are a necessary evil for drivers who have to pay top wack and when you try to claim they give as little back as possible - they are legalised thieves in my book.

Been a little quiet for a while, I\'ve been busy with work and sorting out the mx5 ready to sell (updated that thread too)

But progress in preparation for Rexannes arrival has been going on.

This is the space where she will live before and after.

Today I\'m hoping to level off the earth and start work on the fence, and I\'m pricing up some slabs.

With some luck I might be able to bring her home next weekend and get stuck in :)

I\'ve got all the interior in the house now, all dried out and given a quick clean, there was also the hints of mould starting under the rear seat foam from where water had got in, was only minor so treated it and the seat will be fine.

Why not consider a pit before you lay flags, then erect temporary awning or even a garage too?

I had considered digging down, but not especially seriously. I\'ve never had the luxury of a pit and its never stopped me before. So think it might just be easier to stick some slabs down and get the car up in the air.

I will be erecting some sort of thing to keep the rain off. Some sort of awning or modified gazebo is most likely.

Never had a pit myself but always fancied one and yes it\'s quite easy to build upwards providing you have axle stands, ramps, enough sleepers or paving slabs - just takes time though.

I did all the work on my mx5 on axle stands so was happy to do it that way again.

We didn\'t get any further with the fence :( but all the guys and I have got a half day friday so we\'re gonna give it a go then, and theres still a chance she\'ll be in my care on sunday. :)

I cant do much buying of parts till my mx5 is sold, and i\'m waiting for DVLA to sort out change on engine number on my V5, but once Rexanne is in the garden I can make a start on welding as metal is cheap.

I had a pit at my parents house, was a very useful but the trouble was it broke the path of a natural spring so no matter what we did, after a week or so there\'d be a good foot of volvic in the bottom meaning it had to be pumped out every time we used it. Nearly lost my Mini down it once:eek:

Got a pit but prefer building upwards with trolley jack, sleepers and axle stands.

when I built my garage at my old house, I bought a Mechmate motor pit, one of those fibreglass things you see in the classic car mags.... cost me a grand and when I moved 2 yrs later, i had to leave it behind as you concrete them in. Plus you had to sit down in it on a sliding seat.... crap!

My current house had already got a proper brick built pit inside the garage, very deep and long... perfect for working on my RX7. Not as pretty as the fibreglass thing but 100 times better.

If I build a garage again, I\'ll forget the pits and make sure I\'ve got enough height for a 2 post lift. Proper job.

Fair play to your mom Steve for giving up her veg garden. Get one of those cheap plastic marquees off ebay, it\'ll keep the wind and rain out, that\'s all you need really.

Got myself a car ramp last week, well, when I say car ramp I mean forklift, but capable of lifting 4tonne so a car shouldnt be a problem.
It was free to a good home and I cant say no, so this is another project:D
