Hello rotary dudes

I\'m curious how much power you can have in a rotary b4 it\'s starting to be impossible to use it on the street? Of course we all have different references about what\'s streetable or not but what i mean is.. when will the rotary engine starting to give you serious trouble outside the drag strip?

I\'ve heard lot\'s of crap through the years about the rotary engine.. ppl without any experience telling their opinion. Like it wont work, suck too much fuel, it smokes, make the grass burn under the car, and it won\'t last more than a couple of miles, the Apex will disappear after the first ride.... Of course this is just annoying bull...

I bought my RX4 -74 loads of years ago without any rotary and drive line, coz I liked the look of the car and the exotic original engine. This time nobody worked on rotary’s at least not in Sweden, and if you found anybody doing this, you couldn’t afford it anyway.  Today we have Internet and you can compare the prices and import stuff directly to the door and it won\'t cost u the life savings.

I really liked my car but i didn\'t have so much "know how" about the rotary’s and didn\'t have so much choices, so i had to temporary swap the engine to something else :(

Lot\'s of years has now past and the car has been growing a little bit through the years and now i have a Chevy LS1 5.7 Aluminium V8 engine with twin turbos, It\'s fast with loads of torque, it\'s really scary ( i like to be scared) to open up in this tiny car BUT still it\'s not a rotary!

What can compare with the V8? A turbo charged 20B? A hyper stressed 13B? I\'ve seen lot\'s of drag cars from Australia and they all run like hell! To me it\'s very impressive, but can my enthusiast car (not used everyday and only in the summertime) have a +600hp rotary and take me around the town for a couple of hours? Can i go to the country house and get back? Can I trust the car? I would like to hear your opinion what type of engine and the level of performance that can be suitable 4 me?

:D

theres a guy in the US building a 20b FD with one goal ... 1000hp on the street.

so let em get this right, you have a 600hp twin turbo v8 in your rx4 now. Geez buddy. Even a 400hp13b is going to feel slow I guess:D   If you were a normal person then a 20b with a single turbo,(single but BIG turbo) then this would more than satisfy.
Reliability depends on heaos of things.
How much boost, and how often will you run lots of boost?
Of course who builds it. Best to hunt around to find someone who has the engine package you want and see where it was built.
The street cars in oz that are running stupidly quick on the strip usually run very hard to put up with diff ratios that are not highway friendly.
Does sound like fun though. Got any pictures of it?

My V8 combo is nice but i dunno exactly the power right now but without the turbos almost standard it gave +400bhp:s ,

The first  V8 engine i used it was pretty fast..  B4 I had a small Buick 215 engines on that one i used twin Mitsu TD04HL-15T chargers and the Buick did 8000rpm,  well over 400 hp\'s but i won\'t beat a rotary with the same power. The engine act little bit differently, The rotary let you rev like a crazy!  :)

I\'ve seen a couple of rotarys in action, and they are really really fast.. The way that engine scream at full speed gives me goose bumps!

Yes I have a couple of pics of my car and some of the turbo conversion.. but not on the chevy engine.. only the first Buick V8 swap. I\'ll be back about this, I will also upload a couple of filmclips for thoose who haven\'t seen some of the Australian racecars.. very impressive!

I am australian and have seen alot of very tough mazdas run fast times.
I must say though that i have only ever been in one really fast one, and it was pulling about 11.6 on the quater mile.
I think that you have the right motorvation tough and will come up with something cool.:D

Travellinbob an Aussie guy!? :D

hehe u guys do everything fast with lot\'s of Hp:s right? Everytime i check out something from Australia it\'s fkn fast and noicy :) :cool

I plan to buy a rotary from there.. I\'ve checked out the PAC perfomance and all the others.. very interesting! I don\'t think i can build my own rotary for that kind of money they sell complete engines..

I just checked that link out.. interesting car.. I will follow that post thanx for sharing it. :)

yeah there is alot of fast stuff in oz but the uk scene is starting to take off in an exciting way also. Kinda what oz was a bit like 10years agao, only we did it over there with old skool stuff and over here in the uk they are soooo lucky to be able to afford cool cars like series 6 rx7\'s.
Not a abd idea to buy a car from oz, or even just an engine but at the same time a hell of a risk. Especially if you hadnt seen it first. But the same anywhere I guess.;)

Yes u r right, I have to pay lot\'s of money to somebody I don\'t know on the other side of the world..  this worry me alot.
UK is pretty near and i can go there in person, comparing to AU on the other side of this planet,  Good UK companys is kind of hard to find when they\'re not on the net.

I want to buy the parts and put it together myself.. But i\'m sure it will be cheaper to buy a complete proven concept from a well know rotary tuner. Then i don\'t have to buy any original worn 20B engine that i probably have to change lot\'s of things on.

And when i\'m done i have a huge pile of useless stuff that i have payed lot\'s of money for.. Better to buy the new stuff directly i guess.

I need more info about the rotary books manuals anything that helps me with the "know how" of this cool engine..  :)

Yes there is a V8 under the hood.. But not the chevy, it\'s temporary out for some mods, the old twinturbo buick engine is back, have no pics on the latest ver. of that engine. I have made a new plenum of a Mr. Gasket hillborn style scoop. Trying to get more air, and it looks kind of cool too. Going to take a couple of pics later

Little short of cash 4 the moment.. need more time to finish the project.
Need more stuff, bigger brakes, bigger intercooler stronger g-box to start with. Going to change the rear axle and put on some ladderbars.. maybe not the best choice but sure little bit better than now

It\'s always struggle it seem.. maybe this makes the whole thing more fun when done..

Bloody hell zoddy, your coming to RSIII or I\'ll come over and drag you there myself! Dying to see it, when are you coming over? I think I spoke to you on the phone at RxMotors last month?

The car is not stable enough, the brakes is dangerous like hell..
I have to fix this first.. kind of scary when the brakes fade after approx 5 sec, and you will have a totally uncontrolled driving everywhere. Even the wheels get so hot that all the paint on the inside starting to boil, burning paint makes a horrible smell  :eek

And on top of everything the car is under-steering like hell. The front wheels is 8,5" wide and the rear is 10". Now you can imagine how this feels with +300 hp\'s and want to make a highspeed turn :cool
Live fast …. Die young  :D

mines got 235-45-17 at the front n 255-40-17 at the back, dosnt seem to take much before she looses the back end, but its controled.. lol one quick turn and shes straight again, think maybe its the hks suspension, maybe 2 hard..
