After chatting about air intake temps on a rx7 at Trax. Is there an easy way to gauge the temp from the sensor under the plenum. I dont have an upgraded ecu, like the apexi that gives a read out of the temp. I was woundering if i used a digital water temp gauge as a air intake temp gauge. Just interested in how hard this would be to do and if it would give the desired results ?

Should be easy to do - buy a 12 volt tempreature gauge and sensor kit(make sure it is good for air rather than fluid, and tap yourself a hole in the plenum, or for that matter wherever you like.

The only problem I can see is the sensor gunking up regularly with all the oil particulates that get right up yer plenum!

Might be best to tap in right after the I/C... but then again you might have problems with the flow affecting the reading, chill factor stylee?

I\'m sure all the usual people sell intake air temp senders though - pretty common thing to do once you get into mega power.

Cheers, looks like my first port of call on the buying front is to save up for a PFC !

It doesnt matter where post turbo, pre throttle body you place the sensor, it will get oil deposits on it.

It\'s a by product of the turbo rotary engine. :(

my suggestion is put it on the intake elbo whare people put injectors i dont think oil on it will case it that much bother but just cleen it with accitone or something every so often
when your life is a mess light one more ciggaret its so logical!

I had one on my old car from RS components. Problem is with these "off the shelf" temp sensors is that the refresh rate isn\'t quick enough for our application. So the increase in air temp when the car is on boost won\'t register quick enough on the gauge and you either won\'t find out how hot it\'s getting until after said event or it\'ll have cooled back down completely by the time the system has refreshed. A refresh rate of 1 or more a second would be ok, every 0.1s best, but 1 every 5 seconds would be a waste of time in my opinion. And yeah anywhere after the intercooler is fine and nope they arn\'t really affected by small deposits of oil.
