Should I get this FD for potential engine upgrade?

Just heard from someone that a guy he works with has an FD that\'s been  in a fender bender. Car runs but the guy just wants rid of it as he\'s  leaving the island in 5 months (he\'s military and so doesn\'t want the car anymore after he leaves). Is asking for 190 quid for the whole thing. Is  it worth getting and then towing somewhere to rape parts off it  (specifically the engine and related bits for a future swap) and then sell other bits to hopefully make a bit of money back? Or should I just pass on it. Car  runs and everything so the motor\'s still good.  Only bad thing when  thinking about a full swap is that the FD in question is an automatic.

The swap isn\'t as straight forward as you may think. You\'d be better off buying two fd\'s (one with a blown motor), swapping the engine over, then selling

What is there over what is specified over FC3SPro?  That is, over new crossmember, harness, FD ECU, upgraded radiator, front-mounted intercooler etc being needed?

conversion from auto to manual is not as difficult as people think, took 2 of us 1 day to complete.... was nearly a 12 hour day though :wiggle
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

Pretty sure the engine mounts are completely different?

Also I\'m not sure if all the clocks will work. (they might do though)

Engine mounts are waaay different.

FC mounts off the centre plate, FD off the rear.

This is a long way from a bolt in swap.

Yeah, like I said above it needs a new crossmember above other things.  That wouldn\'t be a problem though as my machine guy can make me up one of those.

surely to make engine mounts you\'re going to need to sort of test fit everything? You\'ll need to position everything perfectly. I suppose you could sit the two engines next to each other and sort out the engine mounts that way. Additionally you may need to place the engine differently due to the gearbox/ancillaries etc.

TBH i\'d speak to someone thats done it. TII -rew rings a bell

That\'s what I\'ve done over on rotarycarclub.com.  Friend says the crossmember shouldn\'t be a big issue for him to fabricate and make work once all measurements are taken and everything aligned as it should be.

They are and this is a well documented conversion that involves a whole lot of work to get it fit right. Anything can be done if you have the resources and for the money this should be sat in your garage by now!!
