Hi I recently bought a fd3s, when I got it home there was a little mayonanse under the oil cap ( not sure if this is just condensation as the car hasnt been used? or something more serious)

Ive now given it a service. The car runs fine and runs at around 81c-85c, but when it has cooled down the water has dropped in the filler neck, down to the level of the little probe. Ive just fitted a new cap to the ast. I have tried my best to bleed the system. Could it still have small air locks? How can I make sure the overflow pipe is working and sucking coolant back?

I cant see any obvious external leaks, and theres no smoke form the exhaust.

Or is it likely to be something serious like the water seals? It had a rebuilt engine about 25k miles ago
compression test was in the high 7\'s.

Thanks for the help guys, starting to feel like Ive been sold a dodgy motor

Just an update for anyone in a simpimlar position, I have now found a small leak from the water pump bleed hole, hopefully coolant loss problem solved

As in the hole on the water pump?
Be careful dude - this is a \'tell tale\' - a leak here usually indicates that the pump is nearing the end of it\'s life.

Yeah but isn\'t that good news at the same time? A new pump is less expensive than a rebuild. The temps are still good so hopefully its been found in time. If not then at least you know what the cause was and can change it out anyway so it doesn\'t wreck a rebuilt engine. Glass half full and all that!
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Oh yeah, totally, but my point is if you\'ve just sealed up the hole with RTV or something, then you need to give it a bit more attention :)

Oh yeah deffo. That ain\'t a fix its a bodge simples!
