Could someone please explain why Gillett and Hicks are trying to block the sale please and

If RBS are the major crediters with 240 million loan and we as tax payers are the major shareholders of RBS, does that mean we own Liverpool?? :rollin

gsb876

They are blocking sale as they stand to lose £167m if the club is sold for £300m. They actually want close to £600m but in the current climate are stuffed and Benitez has left them a rubbish squad unable to complete with the very best :Giggle

Even as a Everton fan it is sad to see that this was allowed to happen and is not much different to Man Utd, if the Glaziers suddenly want out and no one is willing to pay £900m for them then they will find themselves the same as Liverpool

I thought it was similar to this, but if RBS for close on the loan today, which i think i am right in saying is up, wont they loose everything anyway? So better to loose 167 million surely? And is this why they are being forced to sell because of the RBS loan?

Nik da Greek

As I understand it, if RBS decide to foreclose the loan today, which they\'re entitled to, the club immediately goes into recievership. Which means on top of financial implications they\'re also docked a minimum of 9 points (why only nine when Leeds were clobbered for 15 and then another ten the next season I dunno, but there\'s no level playing fields in foosball...errrrm :3Confused). Which\'d be kinda funny if it gets them relegated too....is it possible with the dismal way they\'ve been playing?

Gillet and Hicks seem to think they\'re playing the field very cleverly but all they seem to have done is alienate prospective buyers in favour of trying to eke out every last cent from the club, and time has caught them out. I wouldn\'t want to see any club in the situation Liverplop have ended in just through greedy profiteering foreigners who know or care nothing about the club or its (once) glorious heritage. It\'s disgusting

If they go into receivership surely they will loose everything, not just 167million?

Nik da Greek

Well, it\'d be up to the receivers I guess. Generally they\'re sensible enough to know who\'s responsible for what but it depends how cleverly they\'ve separated themsleves from the club debts. People like this have squads of weapons-grade accountants making sure they never take the fall for their mis-management blunders, don\'t they? It may be more economical for them to cut their losses and let the recievers have the lot than try to recoup their outlay through a legitimate sale. Don\'t suspect anyone will ever know all the facts and figures behind this farce

Possibly, hence why Hicks and Gillette are claiming wrong doing by the other members of the board when there have been other offers for £400m turned down which would make them their money back. Hence why they dont want to sell cheap as other offers have been tabled.

Just heard that they are looking to sue for $1.0billion should Liverpool be sold without their consent

Lol, they probably figured that if they start high then they stand a better chance of getting a few hundred million back ;)

So its done, Liverpool is sold. I can only hope this is a good thing for the club!

gsb876

I think the former 2 owners are still seeking legal representation so not all over yet :Giggle
