:LaughWhat no Euro thread!

I remember during the world cup i laughed hysterically at Engerland chances of getting anywhere close to winning it.

I also mentioned England v montenegro & if they could\'nt beat them they should give up,or something similar?

Well that was the 1st match i\'ve watched the 3 pussies play since their dismal, expected pathetic, derisory attempt at kicking a football around with some degree of accuracy.

What was wrong this time
Football wrong weight or shape?
Musical instruements tooooooooooooo loud?
Humidity not right on the night?
Montenegro have too much choice for players with a population of 650,000 v 51 million?

I\'d enjoy blind patriots sticking up for Engerland,i learnt a long time ago,it,s much less painful to expect the worst & be surprised at the best!

So how\'d you rate the mighty lions[sorry can\'t say that without sniggering] chances of winning the Euro?

ta ra..

Same chance as me winning the lottery.......:rollin

syebba

well in a few years it\'ll be half a century since engerland has won any trophies/cups.

Every tournament we,ve got the best players, best manager, unbeaten run[against minnows],blah, blah, heard it all before, the gazza years/lineker/keegan/shearer/owen,it goes on & on,hype, hype, hype,no substance or track record to back it up.

Could of been worse imagine if frank flumpard had played[had the most shots in a world cup & fluffed every one of em,25 clear shots at goal i think] or that lumbering oaf emile heskey who\'s incapable of remaining upright on the 2 pairs of legs he was born with.

Doubt the germans will be taking cover & heading to zee bunkers!

I am not so sure anyone can answer your questions buddy!

In my opinion, some of the recent quality players were out and taking the Captaincy away from Gerrard hasnt helped and this is just imho!

Would it have made any difference if the above was in place, who knows, but sure is a bad sign that our mighty cant beat a team chosen from such a ltd population and 6 or 7 leagues.

I think there were only 5 players on the pitch at kick off from the world cup squad so you certainly cant say it was the same old dross, changes have been made.

P.S Its quite apparent that you dont like Lampard but he is one of the only players to score for England during the world cup, regardless that it was disallowed. Have a word about out world class striker Rooney who probably didnt even manage 25 shots at goal!!!!

syebba

Yep i was glad to see the changes from the world cup squad, much needed, but still dismal performances.
I don\'t get it,some of our players are worth many millions on the club transfer market, but when they play for the national team they consistently under perform?

To make matters worse i often work in montenegro,i saw england get thrashed by germany there in a locals pub,i remembered them saying to me Monty have nothing to fear from england, err they were right!there\'s hardly any football pitches there, the countries much smaller than wales, the national sports in Monty are WATER POLO & BASKETBALL!!![not football]..

One game means nothing, Spain lost v Swiss but they won the world cup.

The game v Mont was not that bad, the possession was good the passing was good, sadly Young could not cross and Rooney is still flat (not fat).

I still think England should deploy a 3-5-2 format as we have the players to do so.

1- HART

2-G JOHNSON
3-FERDINAND
4-TERRY

5- A JOHNSON
6-GERRARD
7-HARGREAVES (if fit)
8-MILNER
9-A COLE

10-ROONEY
11-DEFOE

Montenegro beat Switzerland at home, didn\'t they? They were a very well-drilled organised team who knew how to break the game up and were willing to commit cynical fouls when necessary. The refereeing helped them out by being very forgiving. England should have had a penalty for blatant handball in the area.

None of these are excuses. You can\'t rely on the opponents handling in the area to get ahead, and they should really have scored off the strike that hit the crossbar, Hart was beaten all up...... but simply trotting out the same old taunts and insults about how bad England are is not an argument against, it\'s just tabloid invective and you really should try harder. England weren\'t good enough the other night, and they should have been. Get over it. They\'ve shown marked improvements in results, performance and endeavour (with notable excpetions like Rooney The Sulk) since returning from the World Cup with their tail between their legs and perhaps if you weren\'t so pointlessly bigoted against them for whatever reason and so eager to gloat over their misfortune you might be able to realise that?

Agree with Nik :wiggle

I think England played well enough to win the game, the handball was also missed which might have provided the goal we needed.

Not the end of the world just yet folks, chill :Giggle

Not 100% but i believe the thread starter is a France fan ????? Apologies if wrong ;)

Also Portugal seem to under perform more than we do but get little press about it, usually draw and lose to terrible teams :flamed

I think its just a shame to see which is why folks, not just Syebba get frustrated, hence them being boooed off the pitch!

I am not so sure Ferdinand is as a convincing captain as Gerrard, he doesnt seem to gel the side as well and to be fair, the only reason he is captain is because of Terry\'s faux pars!  It must be pretty frustrating if your Gerrard, you captain the side, it does well, Ferdinand rocks up fit for the first time in a long time and who knows how long for and he is Captain.

Maybe thats the problem, the team is full of massive ego\'s that cant gel with others except their immediate club team mates. Hence why the recent games with relative new comers were so much more fluid!

I understand why people like Syebba get frustrated, cos we all do. No-one wants or should accept England scraping a goalless draw at home against a country with 650 000 inhabitants, it\'s simply not good enough. What I don\'t understand or find very admirable is the way that people like Syebba are conspicuous by their absence all the time the team are doing well, but spring out of the woodwork as soon as there\'s some gloating to be done over a poor performance.

I would have thought, given his often-stated dislike of the old "big" names underperfoming and trousering huge paycheques just on reputation alone, he would have been overjoyed to see the last few England performances featuring young up-coming players often performing extremely well. Hmmm...the silence is deafening. I get very tired of people who do nothing but criticise but are unable to praise when it\'s due. Apart from anything else, it means you\'re left feeling there\'s a certain lack of validity to their opinions....

MrHanky

Im not a massive football fan but this seems to be a part of the problem for England as a country.  The papers and a lot of people seem to take a lot of pleasure from poor performances and/or results.

It must feel like a bit of an impossible task for the players sometimes as if they lose they get laid into by the press and public, and if they draw or win they still seem to get negatives from the above (ie they only beat a minnow team).  They must wonder what they need to do to make the English people happy sometimes :)

I think we have too much belief in the teams ability to perform, as said before it\'s close to 50yrs since we have won any major trophy and yet we stubbornly cling to the belief we are the best, when time has shown that we are not.

As a league player each member of our squad can perform well, as this is the role they train for each and every day. They are part of their clubs in a specific position and they are drilled to the highest level to play in a very specific way, to react in very particular way and to work as a team. They they are taken away from their normal roles and asked to do a something slightly different in a different position with a very different bunch of people they normally compete against.
For me I know I would find it very strange. I know people will say they get paids lots so they should be able to do it, but just because someone can kick a ball doesn\'t mean they are adaptable or have the required brain power to even realise why they cannot perform well.
I realise there are many factors behind our lack of success recently but until we start playing our top players in positions they normally play in I cannot see any way that we can improve their performance.
As Nik said our up and comming players have recently done well but it is our "top" players who are seeming to struggle when asked to do something outside the norm, so maybe we need to concentrate on up and comming player who are keen, eager and proud to be playing for their national team
:Laugh LOL

I put a post up recently about the recent cricket success for England, not one reply in support! So Mr Greek is right, media fuelled gloating!

I also feel it cant be too encouraging playing for a manager that you know is only there because the FA cant afford the divorce settlement and will be gone after the Euro\'s. In the last quite a few years we have seen managers come and go, none have really stepped away from norm and all have had their own little quirks about how the team is run! I hope the FA look to sign an English manager who can carry the same national pride from performing well and not get into ridiculous contracts they cant get out off.

gsb876

No decent english managers to take over is the biggest problem !!!

Redknapp - with no money to waste on gambles as players have to be english he will be stuffed :WaveBye

Steve Bruce - really ? :rollin

Steve McClaren - Again :Nono!

Roy Hodgson - See Liverpool :WaveBye

Allardyce - Blew it with Newcastle - better as small club manager :(

Beckham - far too early :Hammer

David Platt - where the hell has he been ??? :flamed

Stuart Pearce - Possibly but unproven :o

Anyone else ???
