Yeah, I got another question for you guys.

Lowrise headlights, that is not hard the cheap way. Just cut the power to them and manually crank them up to where you want them.

Thing is, I still want them to be electric. Is there no way to do that? Shorten the rods or something?

jimmydanny

Are those for FD yeah? That is one letter too high for me. But only thing I can see needs changing is the rods.

grinder

you COULD add an extra switch in line with what is already there

will be a bit of a challenge though - as you put the lights up - click the other switch to drop the power and hopefully they will stay where you left them ??

its just an idea :D

Problem is they will never be in the same spot every time. I think, if I understood it right, it is a motor, with a rod connected to it. The engine goes ie. 3/5 around, and the lights go up. If I shorten the rods, so all the way down is all the way down, then all the way up will be further down that it usually is.

May this be right?

grinder

humm its an interesting theory

but if you shorten them - you may not beable to close them completly .. im sure the motor goes around in a full circle - not backwards and forwards

If they go around one whole rev, then the lights would go down again after going half a rev.

dthebuk

I had slightly shorter rods on mine, looked awesome. Problem was they had an extra joint so they could go all the way up. This is pretty rubbish when your doing 70 and one comes up more than the other

Heh. I will take a look on them tomorrow from under the car when I\'m fixing the exhaust gasket :)

grinder

i think the first 180 degrees puts it up , then the other puts it down ( or vice versa )

so by shortening the rod i would assume that they never would fully open or fully close ( it makes sense in my head !! )

if you say take 1 inch off the rod - then it would only beable to open full height - 1 inch and when closing they would be closed + 1 inch ( figures are fiction - but just to give an example )

i could be WAY off track - but like i said - sounds right in my head !

Carbon RX

When i installed a kit on my old celica gt4 (185) it never involved any of thus kind of modding, far from.

The kit came with a sprung button that when pressed moved the motors, thus you could hold the button until they came to where you wnted them, could be diff every time however i got the same desired place with no probs. It surely just feeds electric to the motors only when pressed thus moving them and overrides the auto up/down only program....
means they can be in st. up position at anytime also!..

Might have missed the point somewhere....

jimmydanny

That is using a push button instead of a relay which holds the power till they are where they should be?

Problem is, as stated above, you will never get them at the same height every time.

I looked at how it works.

On the motoraxle, there is a rod going straight down, from that one the rod to the lights are connected. If you shorten the rod on the axle, and shorten the rod to the lights accordingly, it should work.

I need to test this in some kind of program, not sure what would work. Either make an animation in Photoshop or Flash, or use CAD to test it.

infernal

Don\'t mess with mechanical stuff as far as the lights are concerned, you will brake them or make them malfunction, and surely they will bexome unusable. Go electrical like Carbon RX mentioned. It\'s the best way. Is it really a problem if they are not opened the same amount of mm each time?

jimmydanny

If I got moldings that fit perfectly, it might be.

But I think if I shorten the rods and fasten them a bit more to the front/top of the lights, they will stay all the way down, and go a bit shorter

the hat

shortening the rods works fine mate we did it to a couple of s13s there rod is adjustable anyway so we made a new centre section which was shorter then adjusted them to have the height set evenly

works no problems at all except headlight aim is well off and even on full adjustment it still was not perfect
