Hi folks,

Has anyone successfully fitted one of those cheapish ebay short shift kits? Mine seems to be a little off on a couple of points.

As in it doesn\'t fit you mean? or it don\'t work right?

Well, theres no instructions and about 12 pieces to the puzzle.

Weve tried fitting it in several incantations(myself and a GTR specialist) and for starters the plastic insert that stops the lever twisting does not sit flush with the ball, which means when bolted together, thelever doesnt move.

I have just found a site that sugests some people are selling Miata short shift kits as FC3S kits, but without telling people there are 3 points that require modifying. If it works out illlet you know, i certainly think £19 is worth a gambleover £150 fora brand name kit with instructions, and the author of this blog ive found claims it works brilliantly when modified.

I had the same problem with a Cusco short shifter that my tuner gave me.  In the end he ended up cutting and welding it just right and it works great.

BTW, I can get you a C\'s shifter for well under the 150 quid you\'re quoting here ;)

by looking at that link ^^ .. if your handy with a welder, cant you theoretically, cut and extend that small ball type thing on the end of the shifter? to ressurect that of the short shift?

so instead of a £20 short shift, you have a free hand made short shift.

Koose

Yep but you then need to mill a load of spacers/ shims and cast some rubber washers. You couldnt just extend the ball and reassemble, it wouldnt go back together.

jono395

oh right, i havent actually looked.. so dont know about that.. what would the spacers be for? why wont it just go together? got pics?

Koose

Think about it, your extending the distance between the pivot ball, and the selector ball. So when the selector ball sits in its space, the pivot ball will no longer sit in its space. Which also means messing about with seals and other things.

Il take mine apart soon to see, ive never ever took the thing out, of any car! haha, its something ive never bothered with..  did you get your ebay kit to fit after some faffing?

the ones on ebay are like £35, reckon they are worth it?

cheers Koose :)

Id say short shift kits in general are one of the best mods on a car.

You do need to be a bit more careful with clutching or you will go through synchros a little faster than without, but its not a big deal.

£35 id say for £20-35 its way cheaper than you could make a fully working one for, and a very fair price.

I also have the instructions for the one part you need to order from mazda to get that kit wortking, although the ones that are advertised purely for the fc may be perfect, mine was \'FC3S and Miata\' and apparently they are just miata kits.

**No probs at all dude.

Have you got a link to the auction? Or the seller ID - I fancy one of these myself.
