Hi guys just had my engine street ported and now it\'s ran in and mapped just wondering will I have any starting problems? It seems to take a bit longer to fire up than before but reworxs said that will happen and I gotta give it a bit of throttle?

Could anybody give me sum reassurance? Thanks

No commentary on any tuners. Some basics follow.

*Street ports don\'t take longer to start than stock ported engines.
*Its all in the fuel mapping, period.

Once a car is mapped correctly for all conditions they will start, cold, hot, heat soaked or in freezing conditions, assuming it has over 90psi cold cranking pressure at 250rpm at std temp and pressure atmospheric conditions.

ONLY things that will influence poor starting is incorrect mapping, low compression, or a ignition failure or leaking fuel injector (or non working injector *faulty*. Assume all is o.k. since before the engine mods and check the mapping (expensive time consuming process to do ALL of the work required as you only get 2 goes at it per day! once engine is warm that\'s it)....... if that does not resolve starting problems then check the engine compression.

Std porting new 13B-REW = ~120+psi region
Street porting maximum specification = ~100psi region
One piece apex seals on above =+90psi region

3mm apex seals a few psi lower .....
8.5:1 comp rotors lower again .....

^ All 100% brand new 13B-REW engines tested with my rotary compression tested and equalized for std 250rpm crank speed after 1000km run in.

Hope this is of some help. :2Confused

I do not want to scare you but dynamically what happens when you open the throttle is you are letting more air into the combustion chamber (thus lifting the compression value) this is why motors with low compression start easier when you open the throttle :Snoring *you can test this theory next time you compression test a motor, you will see the value go up greatly when you hold the throttle wide open v shut*

Step 1: check your compression (if its in the guide range I posted above then resort to following).
Step 2: check mapping (cold start priming cranking and warm up enrichment tables).
Step 3: Find other faulty items that are causing car being difficult to start (spark & or hardware fuel parts).

Do not panic, just work through it in a logical manner and you will sort it out mate :driving

My ported engine struggles to start and it is because its flooding while im getting the air locks out of my cooling system. engine on and off without running doesnt help. I have found i can get it started by momentarily reducing the accel injector settings at 1000rpm then turning over the engine.

mine is street ported and starts after about 3 cranks.
as riceracer said, mine did struggle sometimes due to a leaky injector also not enough juice in the battery will make it hard to start.

Mine starts pretty much after the first turn. if you have a apexi then you can adjust the the fuel at cranking only, just fine tune it til you get it right. if you can not see that menu step then you will need a datalogit.(thats if you have a apexi)

Also if you are unhappy then take it back, you are in the same area anyway and explain whats going on, I am sure they will tweak it for you if its needed.

Mine takes no longer to start at all. Even with a ridiculously weak battery it takes about 3 or 4 turns.
Even after a fresh terdown it started on about the 4th turn!

Hammer

Mines just rebuilt running on an old map, with a very big street port and 8.5cr rotors.

Starts fine with no throttle when cold after about 3 or 4 cranks

sounds like a bad map or low compression to me.

yesterday i had to be towed 300 meters for the car to start it was that flooded and the 2 stroke and vaseline hadnt fully combusted and burned away. lots and lots of smoke. i thought it would take a few minutes it took alot longer to clear. its ok now. i was worried for a second.

agreed with the above - my streetport started first or second crank same as the old stock engine.

My 20b started without any throttle...it was street ported and started with literally first crank. I completely agree with Rice Racing. I am becoming a fan of rice racing who is disclosing some real facts about rotaries and also educating us...Pete any plans to visit the UK??
